The more i think about it the more I think that one thing that tells us much about Italian (and European at large, in a way) culture is the year that Italians that are nostalgic about fascism decided was the moment the regime stopped being defensible. Because of the way the Holocaust has been painted as a negative founding myth for all of Europe, they know they cannot defend the 1938 racial laws (not in public at least)... But the regime didn't suddenly become racist in 1938. And yet i've never seen anyone say that the moment fascism went bad was with the war in Ethiopia in 1936. Or with the attacks to slavs in Istria in 1919-1920
