Saw Louis’ tweet and immediately ran here. Solidarity!
Love that you thought of me anon. It was a great tweet that really made my day.
I am going to have to have a little rant of my own. The fucking nerve of this government - putting in a rule about how often a day people can leave the house to exercise that is, unenforceable, completely lacking in an evidence base and only going to cause ill-feeling, while giving so many people no option but to go to work. And that’s both because of its lack of provision for self-employed people and by explicitly saying that people must go to work if their employers tell them to. And you have admin people at real estate agencies having to come in, because their employer won’t set up the systems to do the work from home. And then people acting outraged that there are people using public transport! Everything about this is a clusterfuck - and the effect will be to make the outbreak worse here than in Italy, which is terrifying.
It doesn’t have to be like this. There can be clearly communicated rules and a total shut down of non-essential industries (you won’t hear me praise Jacinda Arden often, but both her and the NZ government in general have done an outstanding job of that) alongside financial support and protection for everyone (NZ hasn’t been as good on that, surprise, surprise).
