Oh my. Just reminded, with child safety locks on cars not being a thing when I was a kid.
Unfortunately, they were by the time we were old enough to drive! Though I never owned a car recent enough to have them standard. I've only had one with electronic locks at all, and that was a two-door. (I also haven't had a car for about 15 years now 😑 Always drove older ones before that.)
Anyway, for whatever reason my then longterm best friend's parents trained her to always central lock the car as soon as she climbed in. 🤔 When we lived in a smallish town where my only concern about parking with the windows down in hot weather was sudden rainstorms. Never mind riding around with the doors unlocked.
That, of course, involved child safety locks, and I just refused to ride in the back seat with her driving. For that claustrophobic cop car-like experience!* She never got why.
But yeah, that may be useful for keeping little kids from going splat on the roadway. Not necessarily so much otherwise.
* I have never been stuck in the back of a cop car. Nor do I want to try it.
