when i was like, seven, i read the berenstain bears and the new girl in town, which, for those who didn’t read those books, had a romeo and juliet-esque feud spring up to divide brother from his love interest bonnie, and it was resolved with an anvilicious performance of romeo and juliet (by william shakesbear! ba dum tiss). anyway, my teacher caught me reading it and then she went and bought me a very very condensed version of romeo and juliet, and i read that, and i fell in love with shakespeare.
