Hey Peeps...

So, there's a heat advisory in my part of the country(mid-Atlantic region), and I figured right now would be a good time for a little PSA. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN YOUR CAR UNATTENDED, LIKE AT ALL, OR EVEN OUTSIDE FOR EXTENDED AMOUNTS OF TIME. If you HAVE to leave your dog outside, make sure they have plenty of shade and ample fresh, cold water. If you own a dog with a smushed face: boxers, pugs, mastiffs, english bulldogs, french bulldogs, etc., do NOT let them run around and do NOT leave them outside. They WILL get heat stroke and suffer major health consequences, including death.

I realize dogs are like toddlers and will be antsy, and probably act out because they're kept indoors. However, dealing with a chewed up shoe is hella better than the alternative.

If you think your dog might be suffering from heat stroke, call your vet immediately. Hose them down with cool/tepid water, paying special attention to their bellies and pads of their feet.

Better yet, keep them inside in the A/C. Period.

I mean, if there was a thing that shortened a kid's expected lifespan to 1/3rd the norm, or less... and I was responsible for a kid... I would not let the kid do that thing. Not even if they wanted to. Not even if some other kids were doing it. Not even if some ppl think it's totally not a big deal. I'm in charge of the kid. It's my responsibility to keep them healthy and happy and alive.

If the kid doesn't understand why, it's still my job to not let them do the thing. If they're bored, it's my job to help them do safe things instead. If they're sneaky, trying to do the thing anyway, it's my job to put up effective safeguards to prevent them from doing the thing. If somebody tries to tell me to lighten up, it's my job to not cave. And if ppl are arguing over whether the thing is good, it's my job to say, "No. It isn't. It's harmful. Kids can't always protect themselves. We have to do it for them."

Bc that's what you do when you're responsible for an alive thing that depends on you. So I don't understand why that isn't still the case when the alive thing is a cat or dog. Roaming cats live 1/3 as long, and roaming dogs live less than 1/5 as long. Nobody would just be ok with a kid only living to 14-25 bc their guardian let them do dangerous shit their entire life. That's endangerment/neglect, and no alive thing deserves that.

If you didn't know before, you do now. So pls go forth and do better for your alive thing. They trust you.

i think we might have a fairy circle on our lawn. when the grass grows taller the grass grows darker than the rest of the lawn in an almost perfect circle, and sometimes there also grows mushrooms along that circle. what do?

Also, I live in a very rural area and love sitting on my front porch and spotting wildlife! Today I have seen:

-Bram (the bat who roosts in the roof of the porch every day)

-The Hummingbird - has become a regular visitor! My family is bringing me a feeder and food for him next week since he seems to be sticking around 💕

-A deer - this is very common. Most of my neighbors hunt but I don't so I usually have a couple of groups of deer in and out.

-One (1) coyote. He was minding his business, probably looking for the rabbit burrows at the middle of the field. Keep your fucking cats inside.
