Unwind and relax in the tranquil sunlit water of the Monterey Bay 〰️⁠ ⁠

The ocean’s glistening sunlit waters teem with life. As MBARI’s remotely operated vehicles descend at the beginning of a dive and ascend at the end of their mission, we capture many mesmerizing moments on camera.

Dolphins playfully frolic, sunfish casually flap, gelatinous life floats, baby octopus jet, sea nettles gently pulse, and seabirds flit their little feet. Relax and enjoy these captivating scenes from the shallow open water of Monterey Bay.

Monday Mantra: Keep calm and float with a vampire squid.

Give yourself a moment to breathe deep and take in the enigma that is the vampire squid, Vampyroteuthis infernalis. It’s easy to imagine the vampire squid as a nightmarish predator. It lurks in the eternal midnight of the deep sea, has a dark red body, huge blue eyes, and a cloak-like web that stretches between its eight arms. When threatened, it turns inside out, exposing rows of wicked-looking “cirri.” Even its scientific name, Vampyroteuthis infernalis, means “vampire squid from hell.” 

In reality, the vampire squid is a soft-bodied, passive creature, about the size, shape, and color of a football. A “living fossil,” it inhabits the deep waters of all the world’s ocean basins at depths where there is almost no oxygen, but also relatively few predators. 9. 3 pet peeves

Uhhh... that's a difficult one.  Well, living by myself, and while living with my previous partner doing the bulk of housework and daily life shit, I've grown accustomed to how I do things.  Like, dishes and laundry and stuff like that.  So, when someone differs from that set way of doing it... well, that doesn't really annoy me, it just kind o' makes me go, "Huh..."

There are a lot of things that irritate me, though.  I dunno if they're pet peeves, but... whatever!  So, like, the entire college system and institution bothers me.  I don't like it.  Education system in general, really.  Um... politics really frustrates, no matter which side you're pullin' for.  It's all ridiculous.  And, finally... oh, Ithaca, NY, kind of in general irritates and rubs me the wrong way.  Just... signs for "Gluten-free!  All organic!  Vegan!" are everywhere in that sort of... bull-shitty way, y'know what I mean?  'Cause it's hip, y'know?  Yeah, that drives me nuts.

15. What state or part of the world do you live in?

New York!  Not the city, there's any entire state. ;P  But about three to four hours from NYC.

17. Somewhere you would like to visit

Seattle.  I kind o' just want to visit the Washington state area in general.  I've always thought it might be a cool place to live.  And I've really been jonesin' to go back to North Carolina, where I spent the first half of my growing up, and revisit old stompin' grounds.
