Keeping Plants *Platonic Hawks Imagine Series*
A/N: Sorry for the long wait for this one, I've been out and about lately. I'm also working on creating an OC and storyline for an erasermic family dynamic that I've been thinking about. Hope you enjoy!
“N/N, what is that?” Hawks asked with a laugh as he stepped into the apartment. He had just gotten off work when he opened the door to see you standing in the kitchen with a small pot sitting on the counter.
“A cactus!” you smiled brightly, turning the pot around slowly to look at the plant.
Hawks kicked off his shoes and hung up his hero jacket. He walked over to the counter and leaned against it, watching as you turned the plant around in circles. “Why do you have a cactus?”
“I’ve always wanted to own a cactus,” you answered. “And I saw this one when I went to go pick up some orange juice, so I decided to get it.” You looked at Hawks and smiled. “And! If I forget to water it for a while, it’s ok!” Hawks chuckled as he ruffled your hair, rounding the island to dig through the fridge.
“Alright then, whatever makes you happy kiddo.”
Hawks came home a week later, again to another surprise. You weren’t home, out on patrol with Tokoyami, but that wasn’t the surprise.
“What in the world?” Hawks chuckled. There was another plant in the kitchen, sitting in the windowsill above the sink. It had a vine-like appearance, and it wrapped partially around the sink. “Another plant?” The man watered the plant and moved on with his day.
Within the next few weeks, the apartment the two of you shared became infested with various plants. Hawks learned to live with it, and to be honest, he liked them. He liked the life it gave the apartment. It also made him happy to see how happy the plants made you. He loved to see the smile you wore every time you watered your plants. When you weren’t home, Hawks made sure each and every one of them got the proper amount of sunlight and water to survive.
One night during dinner Hawks decided to ask about the flora. “Y/N, can I ask you something?”
You set your plate down at the table. “Yeah?” you answered worriedly. “Am I in trouble?”
“No, no no no,” Hawks said quickly, sitting beside you. “I just wanted to know why you’ve been buying so many plants recently?” He took a bite of his own dinner, waiting for your answer.
“I don’t know, I can get rid of them if you want me to,” you said quietly.
“No, I didn’t say that,” Hawks drawled. “I want you to feel comfortable here, so do whatever you’d like to make this place feel like home. I was just curious.”
“So you’re ok with all the plants?”
Hawks smiled fondly, closing his eyes in the process. “Of course! To be honest, they make me feel better when I look at them.”
You smiled happily, excited that Hawks liked your plants just as much as you do. “They make me feel better too! I read somewhere that they can help with mental health, so I thought a few plants would be nice.”
“Honey, there are plants everywhere,” Hawks laughed. “But I really don’t mind. I love it.”
