I have always been fascinated by the myth of the Minotaur and Theseus lost in the labyrinth in his quest to save the children of Athens. It has a reflection of my own life working for close to two decades in a Children's hospital and in my dreams I am still lost in the giant maze of that building facing old ghosts and a sense of something dark that must be vanquished. This mythological story of the Minotaur is about facing our fears and pains of the labyrinth of our own subconscious and its twists and turns that keep us from finding the true nature of who we are at the center of our psyche. To face the beasts within our own mind we develop protagonists and antagonists that are part of the same identity of self. I am both Theseus and the Minotaur and the lost innocence of the children desperately finding a path through the hidden passages of my mind. We think we are creatures of the conscious world but we live a great deal of our lives in the subconscious, making decisions and life choices by the hidden requirements we are not fully aware of. In that way we are all lost in the labyrinth of our own subconscious motives and sense of self. 🎩 UPCOMING exclusively at DCG Rome ★ Ray Caesar SOLO SHOW – “Lost in a Fragile Myth” ★ Opening 20th October 2018 🌹 Preview and waiting list [email protected] 🎨 Artwork image: Ray Caesar – Minotaur Ed of 20 #dorothycircusgallery #raycaesar #upcomingexhibition #contemporaryart #digitalart #myth #time #theseus #labirynth #maze #childhood #artinrome #popsurrealism #sublime #detailing #dcg #dcgrome #staytuned #keepitsurreal #staydorothy https://www.instagram.com/p/BowZrObj8Sd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=94i6kl1df59q
