do they have to be recent? because if not, you could look into the mayan civilization, esp theories about the naco valley and craft production. that's one major theory of how that economy worked

wallerstein’s world systems theory pretty much only focuses on like the 16th century on so i dont think that would work but thank you for the suggestion
