Now I'm curious, what GOT Houses do you think everyone else would be in? Bones is definitely a Stark or a Tully
SCREM.Ā anon, i love you.
so.Ā um um um, where to begin.Ā i could go about this so many ways, so uhhhh.
JIM KIRK --> House Targaryen.Ā Be it in Danyās shoes or Jonās, although I like it from Danyās POV more at the moment.Ā I already mentioned a few parallels between Dany and Jim that make this fit really, really well, but point blank, Jim is a major player.Ā Heās the captain, the guy who rallies the troops for the cause.Ā Thereās been a lot of things around lately about whether you could do a Trek movie ( with the original crew ) without Kirk.Ā And honestly, you could do it, but would you?Ā Yes, Trek is about the group as a whole, this disparate group of people coming together because one personās strength is another weakness.Ā But that doesnāt work as well without a rallying point.
LEONARD McCOY --> House Mormont.Ā Mormonts are stubborn and incredibly, deeply loyal, and Bones is also the Most Stubborn and incredibly, deeply loyal -- there are so many examples of that okay.Ā Also, Mormonts arenāt one of the Great Houses, theyāre more on the periphery of things.Ā They serve the Great Houses ( their alliance with the Starks. ) āĀ in a lot of ways, the secondary Houses are the backbone of the Great Houses and that just. really fits Bones.Ā Heās a major player, but more so on the periphery of things.Ā He doesnāt need all the pomp and circumstance when heās just doing his job as a doctor, and he prefers it that way.
SCHN TāGAI SPOCK --> House Greyjoy.Ā But sent off as a ward of House Stark.Ā I originally wanted to say he was a Baratheon bastard ( ah-la Gendry ), but thought the idea of being born one house and sent off to be raised under another better exemplified Spockās struggles in balancing his Vulcan-ness with his humanity.Ā Jon ends up telling Theon that he doesnāt need to choose between being a Greyjoy and a Stark, that he can be both.Ā If I got anything out of ST:B it was a sense of peace in Spock due to the realization that just because heās one thing, doesnāt mean he canāt be the other.Ā Now, I donāt think Spock would make the same decisions that Theonās Greyjoy characteristics led him to make.Ā Spock, like all the goodies in Trek, isnāt cruel like a Greyjoy.Ā Nor is he overconfident like Aeron, Balon, and Euron, but he is intense, adventurous, proud.
NYOTA UHURA --> House Martell.Ā Ahem, warrior women who take shit from no one?Ā All hail Queen Nymeria.Ā And, okay sure.Ā The Sand Snakes are one extreme when compared to Doranās patience, and, yes, Oberyn is dangerous, aggressive, and insulting in all the ways Ny isnāt, but Nyās a good balance between the two.Ā Sheās intense, doesnāt take shit from anyone, is brave as hell and is a woman of action, but sheās tactful about it.Ā Sheās a professional.Ā And, also, relating this back to Jimās ID as a Targaryen -- the Martells are the only house that didnāt fall to the Targaryens the first go around, much like Ny was allĀ ācute try, but boy byeā the first time she met Jim in XI.
HIKARU SULU --> House Tarly.Ā TBH, I really struggled with Sulu.Ā I originally stuck him as a Baratheon, but it didnāt feel quite right.Ā Tarly doesnāt feel quite right either, but I think heās somewhere between the two and closer to Tarly on the scale.Ā And heās for sure more Sam than Dickon, but I donāt see a universe where Hikaru Sulu would turn down Heartsbane if it was offered.Ā It wouldnāt be because heās ruthless, but because he wants to be prepared.Ā And, okay, the fencing thing influences that too.
PAVEL CHEKOV --> House Tyrell.Ā I may have based this one on looks more than anything and Iām not even sorry about it?Ā But, in all seriousness, Chekov sure as hell isnāt as innocent as a lot of people make him out to be just because heās so much younger than his crewmates.Ā Reading thisĀ ( scroll to #3 for Tyrell. )Ā just screamedĀ Chekov to me.Ā Iām 90% sure Olenna Tyrell would adopt Pavel Chekov in 0 seconds flat.Ā If you canāt see him sitting around, throwing shade with Margaery and Olenna, and then being fighty with Loras then thatās really just on you.Ā Chekovās ambitious just like Margaery, licentious, and boasts about Russia just as much as the Tyrells brag about Highgarden.
MONTGOMERY SCOTT --> House Tully.Ā Another one I kind of struggled with.Ā Tully doesnāt feel 100%, but nothing else did either.Ā Ultimately, I went with Tully for similar reasons to why Bones is a Mormont: the Tullys arenāt in the spotlight, and Scotty, if left to his own devices, would probably 100% like to only ever stay down in his own world in engineering.Ā Itās not because he doesnāt care because he does and we know he does.Ā He cares a lot, but, in his own words,Ā āIād rather not take sidesā unless absolutely needed.Ā Tullyās #7 on thisĀ list, and that all, imo, fits Scotty.
CHRISTOPHER PIKE --> House Stark.Ā Do I need to explain this one?Ā Heās Ned, but like at least 109842934% more Done.Ā Like, heās BoromirĀ āOne Does Not Simplyā level done compared to Ned Stark on the Sean Bean character scale.Ā But, heās good, honest, and loyal.Ā In AOS, heās stern with Jim and isnāt afraid to let Jim know whenās heās disappointed as all get out, but he still sticks his neck out for Jim in the way Starks do whatever and stick up for their family.
CAROL MARCUS --> House Lannister.Ā Honestly, I think this one comes more from the actionās taken by her father in ST:ID than her own, which isnāt exactly fair, but Tyrion and Jaime havenāt turned out half-bad.Ā But, Carolās cunning and got the head for strategy given that she forged her transfer onto enterpriseĀ and then, when needed, revealed her presence to her dad in an effort to save the enterpriseĀ and her crew from his wrath.Ā
JAYLAH --> Crasterās Keep.Ā So, basically, sheās a Wildling, but I specifically grouped her with Crasterās creep ass because she spent an unspecified amount of time as Krallās prisoner with her family.Ā And, then, it isnāt until the enterpriseĀ crew crash lands on Altamid that sheās, truly, able to orchestrate her escape.Ā Am I saying the enterpriseĀ crew is her Sam Tarly?Ā Iām saying the enterprise crew is her Sam Tarly.

I don't know anything about Twin Peaks, but I found your blog on total accident and your post about Laura being mythologized by her death made me follow you instantly. Because you're right, and that's how so many young women are treated. Nobody grows up hoping they die a martyr; we all just want to live happy and free to be ourselves and she didn't get that, and it isn't fair that the people in her life weren't held accountable for what they did.
Anyways, sorry for the rant. I think it rocks that you have such a clear and honest view of a character who shouldn't have been hurt the way she was.
this is such a kind and thoughtful message! thank you so much for taking the time to write it --- i don't know how my interpretation of laura holds up to the creators' original intent, but one thing i think we can all agree on is that collective/public grief is rarely honest, and it rarely has anything to do with the person who actually died. i wouldn't recommend watching the show, really (i know, i am just Like This, And For What?), but i do think that was something the writers gave a fair amount of consideration. it's just so easily lost in translation, you know? fandoms ... like having #icons to force into the holes they've dug for their own use, and laura's image has suffered a lot from that. she's not meme fodder: she's just a girl that no one listened to, and people still aren't paying attention to what she's saying, over 30 years later. it's all very "disappointed, but not surprised".
thank you again! you've gotten my week off to a wonderful start; i hope you have a great one :-)
