keikira replied to your post “They make a big deal in E^2 about whether or not they had biological...”
I haven't seen much of ent but way too much value is placed on shared blood in society and media tbh
oh yeah, definitely. it’s rather upsetting, especially when you study sociology so you know that the expectation of a nuclear family is largely the result of 1950s propaganda to get women out of the workforce and that the idea that only biological parents should raise a child creates an environment in which domestic abuse can thrive because the children don’t have anyone to turn to for help. I really wish that depictions of the future would display childrearing as a communal effort that is actually focused on the well-being of the children rather than perpetuating conformity
Idk where this is from or how I got it but I have it
Ds9 or Voyager, 001?
DS9:
Favorite character:
Kira is the best, but I find Bashir the most relatable
Least Favorite character:
Quark
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
Kiradax, Garashir, Benjamin/Kassidy, Jake/Ziyal, and the O’Briens with Kira
Character I find most attractive:
Kira
Character I would marry:
Kira
Character I would be best friends with:
Can you tell how much I love Kira?
a random thought:
I really really love the Jack Pack but I despise the narrative of both of the episodes they’re in
An unpopular opinion:
I really don’t like how Worf is written in DS9. It’s like the only thing in the show I don’t like, but he lost his charm. I hate the way he treats Jadzia (he didn’t do that controlling shit with Deanna?? wtf??) and I hate that he just forgot Alexander
My Canon OTP:
Benjamin and Kassidy
My Non-canon OTP:
Kiradax
Most Badass Character:
Kira “beats the shit out of a hallway through of guys while pregnant” Nerys
Most Epic Villain:
Dukat a vile piece of shit, but he is undeniably the best written villain in the entire franchise
Pairing I am not a fan of:
Worf and Jadzia and Julian and Ezri
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
Worf and Ziyal
Favourite Friendship:
Kira and Sisko
Character I most identify with:
Julian
Character I wish I could be:
Kira
Voy:
Favorite character:
B’elanna
Least Favorite character:
Neelix
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
B7, J7, J/C, Icheb and Q jr, I guess I actually don’t have that many ships for voyager? I like elements of B’elanna/Tom and Tom/Harry, but not enough to say they’re my favorite ships
Character I find most attractive:
B’elanna
Character I would marry:
Kes
Character I would be best friends with:
Kes
a random thought:
I really fucking wish we saw them on Earth
An unpopular opinion:
I love Kes! I don’t know why people leave her out!
My Canon OTP:
?? I guess Tuvok and his wife
My Non-canon OTP:
B7
Most Badass Character:
B’elanna
Most Epic Villain:
I’m not particularly fond of any of the villains, at least off the top of my head, so I guess the Borg Queen
Pairing I am not a fan of:
Neelix and Kes and Neelix and Tuvok
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
Harry and Kes (why kill off Kes??? Kill Neelix you idiots)
Favourite Friendship:
Janeway and Kes
Character I most identify with:
Harry

Damn, I hadn't even thought of it from that point. I was thinking of how my dad was adopted and just this afternoon, someone asked about his "real mom" and we clarified that we all consider the woman who raised him to be his real mom. There's also the deeply pervasive idea that because someone is your blood, you owe them everything for happening to have been born into the same family, which is ridiculous. Adopted family is real family and blood has only what emotional meaning you ascribe to it.
you’re totally right. Adopted families need to be portrayed as “real” and loving families much more and we need characters who can reject toxic family members and not be vilified by the narrative. That’s my biggest problem with Doctor Bashir, I Presume? Julian’s parents were horrible and the way they treated him left unimaginable psychological scars that are likely the cause of his low self-worth which likely plays a huge rule in his seemingly suicidal behavior in the later seasons, but of course Julian has to forgive his parents because ~they’re family~ The same thing happens to Garak, Odo, Ezri, Riker, Spock, Data and Lore, virtually every character in media, not just star trek, who has horrible parents is expected to forgive them for no reason other than because ~family~ and it’s horrible to watch and really damaging to those of us who do have shitty parents to be told we’re in the wrong for not being okay with the people who hurt us
keikira replied to your post “What does "wongbal" mean”
they're most likely referring to you saying "change your url op" in the tags of that bad star trek aus post you just reblogged. At first glance it looks like you're telling wongbal to change their url, not badstartrekaus
okay, fair point. I’m sorry about the confusion; just trying to say that’s a great star trek au
