my thing is with vanilla ice, i wish she was the kind of evil that is particularly evil to the enemy. like a Mariah sort of evil. but she just isnt, she takes on the role of obedient mutt to be thrown aside when proved useless, so she strives for usefulness and it results in her… long list of qualities. i would adore for her to be the type of person to fuck with her enemy like that, but she isnt. her emotional abuse towards her enemy is unintentional and has nothing to do with how they react, vi does it for her own emotional benefit. killing avdol was apart of her plan but the other two werent supposed to live, kicking iggy was a gut reaction but there was an effect on polnareff that secured her defeat.
also yes this is a she/her vi post i should clarify
another aspect is it doesnt matter wether she is born a girl or transitions into one because her archetype isnt gendered, she is the DOG of stardust crusaders. yes, she is dio’s filthy mutt and that’s not a fetish thing. moreso, a tragedy; she wants to be his dog and nothing more. conceptually, her happy ending is to be dio’s dog forever. there’s nothing to know about her and there’s nothing that needs to be known for her satisfaction. what was her relation to dio’s plans? what was her reasoning for following dio?
“Loyal to DIO forever.” why? why would someone want that? to be someone’s weapon. is it need for importance, perhaps desire for love? what is the point of wanting someone to treat you like a meaningless commodity? she ‘comforts’ him, no no, cream comforts him. it’s not as if dio doesnt care for her like how he doesnt care for some of his agents, but he doesnt love her. unlike someone with more ‘potential’.
enrico pucci.
there was a reason he had spiritual experiences and coversations with pucci that were shown explicitly rather than vanilla ice. he could’ve had those conversations with vi but i doubt she had the mental capacity to fully endure or understand them, preferring to be the tool to take care of those who defied him. which somewhat relates her to masculinity and femininity at the same time. the desire to be a tool is the backbone of humanity when presented with a force that is superior, she understands dio is above her and will be the loyal follower that becomes his tool as he guides her.
inevitable pucci section, skip if you want: her contrast with pucci is that enrico is the one who inherited this fate from dio directly, the one who will take his plan and form it under his own guise to then proceed to say that is what dio wanted. to truthfully do it for the cause HE wanted rather than what both he and dio wanted. the uncontrollable emotion of revenge, the human emotion of it. pucci wanted to avenge dio. taking the plan dio sought for himself and twisting it to the form of the happiness for humankind.
(image isnt related to anything i just like that this implies they knew each other)
a big thing in jojo's, as stated by araki himself i believe, is the celebration of humanity. the protagonists are amazing examples of kindness and justice and the good part, the brave part of humankind. the villains are more interesting in how human they truly are, nearly all of the main villains beside a select few WANT to be above humanity, the side villains are more comfortable in their mortal skin. vanilla ice is not exempt from that, she is fine with her humanity, it led her to dio after all. but it is the nonhuman aspect of her that leaves her for dead, let me explain.
the reason she was killed was in simpler terms: being ragebaited to death by polnareff, but seriously, she was being provoked by polnareff into getting her to get closer to the sunlight, which she obeys mindlessly. in her introduction to battle, she is calculated and understands her opponent's strengths and is okay with a failed first attempt. by the end of the fight, she is barely even thinking about what could harm HER. this could also tie into polnareff's personal fight with j. geil and how he had provoked him to attack the window, but that's for another time.
her reasoning for following dio is unknown but i truly wouldn't be surprised if it were for the idea of desiring a force to control her, she enjoys the dog life. to kneel at his feet, to do as he calls, to be good. but there's a plausible reason for her purpose being a mystery.
vanilla ice is introduced as a strange character who is one of the few agents actually seen with dio himself, among four others: enya, pucci, nukesaku, and hol horse. dio trusts vanilla ice, pucci, and enya (although he kills her for precaution). the first thing she does is decapitate herself in order to give dio blood to completely obtain jonathan joestar's body, but is soon revived for the purpose of being a loyal servant. then she leaves the room through her stand in which makes a giant gap in the door, presumed to be silent. her mystery lies in the ability of her stand, such as the idea of "fear of the unknown". though for a cool idea of her backstory, the ova gives her one (and a very dionilla-esque introduction)
basically what this is all trying to add up to is she is a very human character, despite doing very inhumane things, that is her idea of love. a concept i see a lot of people mention when they speak about her. they're not wrong, dio is quite literally her idea of love. love is servitude and devotion, love is sacrifice, love is endurance for the sake of another. these concepts all tie into her enemies. the three she fought all had seperate ideas of love that she embodied completely, she was the unity that was good for dio. polnareff will never understand the idea of love is sacrifice but he will forever be surrounded by it, in his friends, in his enemies, and in people he wants to help.
to end this off, vanilla ice is the idea of love in stardust crusaders, fear and love are her themes. there's an endless, similarly beautiful void in each of them. she instills fear into people while feeling nothing but love and adoration for her god. as the saying goes, the best of dogs lay at their master's feet.
i have n’doul brainrot :,)
GOD I LOVE ALL VANILLA ICE FORMS BUT HOLU FUCKKKK THE OVA ONE IS SO FINEEE 👅👅👅
