I texted my friend Nik recently and said, “when someone has a special place in, next to your heart, you let them know.” #EveryTimeIDie has been an integral part of my life since 2002. #KeithBuckley writes incredible lyrics that always strike the right chord in my heart. The band’s latest album, ‘Radical’, is not only my favorite release of the year but has THE most powerful lyrics written to date. Their intensity is magnified with every listen. When I heard the song “Sly”, and Keith screams, “GIVE MY LOVE TO BUFFALO!”, I knew that’s what I wanted tattooed on me. This past weekend, I went and saw Johnny Bavarro at #EvolutionTattoo. We spoke a couple of weeks prior to my appointment. He knew exactly what I wanted. The session flew by and next thing you know, I’m out the door. There aren’t enough #ThankYou’s for everyone involved, from the band and their music to Johnny Bavarro and the crew at Evolution for being amazing. Their shop has incredibly talented artists. #TBT to January 2011 when #TheDamnedThings played #Reno. The part that cracked me up was #KeithBuckley rolling in a couple minutes late then introducing himself, “hey, I’m Keith.” I said, “yes you are. You guys (referring to #EveryTimeIDie) are playing down the street in about 6 weeks. There’s a number of us fired up for that show.” Needless to say, The Damned Things stole the show in Reno that night. Also on the bill, #HellYeah, #Buckcherry, and someone that I can’t remember. Every Time I Die - Hot Damn! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @everytimeidie ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ll keep this brief and say that if you don’t already know about ETID, you really should, and if you do, I hope you agree that Hot Damn! Absolutely fucking rips front-to-back. In fact, if there was some hypothetical situation where I was stuck on a desert island and allowed exactly one Every Time I Die album, I would choose Hot Damn! every time. Truth be told, this band has never put out a bad album, and if you care at all about gritty, loud, obnoxious metal, you already know this. However, as time progressed, they’ve had access to bigger budgets and better producers and all that jazz...and the result is sometimes a little more polished and perfected than I like. Hot Damn! was a perfect blend of technical prowess and indie work ethic with just enough production value to make it into the big leagues but not so much that they sounded overproduced and destined for Hot Topic. Keith’s lyrics are crisp, clear, and ironic as ever and the guitar lines in this album damned near gave me carpal tunnel 15 years ago as I pretended I had even half of the talent required to be in a band that melts as many faces as ETID does on the regular. Please give this album a spin if you aren’t already familiar with it.
