The sankai, also known as the kekkai, is a yōkai from Japanese folklore. Unlike most yōkai, the sankai is born from a human woman if due care is not taken during pregnancy. It is said to resemble a turtle with hair growing on its back. In certain prefectures, it is said to resemble a cow.

Once born, the sankai will start crawling away. If it is not immediately caught and killed, it will burrow under the house and eventually kill its mother.

Headcanon: ➳  Kagome has an innate ability to make a hole in her kekkai (barriers) to let people enter at her choosing...However on that note--she also figured out how to use her arrows as grounding ‘hooks’ to set her kekkai up to where she can leave them without her actually being there to keep them in place. Basically making the kekkai self sustaining.
