Heru-Wer: He of the Two Horizons
As one of the oldest gods in Ancient Egypt, Heru-Wer--or Horus the Elder--is a sky god of protection. He of the Two Horizons, Harakhti, god of the east and rising sun. He soars in the sky, protecting his devotees with an iron wing!
Just Gotta Be Mad
"My love for you will never change/ But I'm not ready to make up/... I just wanna be mad awhile." - Terri Clark
Anger at the gods can be a hard road to hoe. At least, it has been for me.
I can't clearly trace the moment I went from a devoted follower, to one in a fallow period, to one who stomped away and without minced words said that I was done.
Anger has been controversial in our community. But honestly, my post isn't really about that.
It's about how I needed it. And perhaps other people feel, or will feel the same.
The whole time I stewed... I also felt like a failure. I should just not feel, I told myself. I should be the image of a patient faithful, dressed in white, waiting for better to come.
I told myself I wasn't good enough for the gods. But, contradiction after contradiction- I still loved them. And honestly also hated them. I craved them and dreamt. Wished for them to rush to me and wished for them to finally just go away.
I was also angry that I wasn't angry enough. Part of me wanted to just do something, anything else. Become a nun, a Heathen- it didn't matter as long as I could turn and stick my tongue out at the gods. "Look what you lost," I'd say.
I needed to be mad and let myself truly feel that anger. It was scary and upsetting. It was also healing.
Everything isn't as it was. I have a lot of mending to do. But I'm reminded of the wandering goddess who is eventually lured back home by a fellow god. Yes, she is convinced to come home. But she has also had a chance to work through the anger and betrayal at what happened.
Me: *thinking about what I need at the grocery store*
Sutekh: Something for me!
Me: ?? I don't even work with you???
Him: It was worth a try.
Mother of Nightmares, i beg of you, haunt my dreams. be the shadow beneath my bed. when my eyes are blinded with visions of ruin and lies, burn away the isfet. when i have wandered to the cold edges of the Duat, drag me back. when the ghosts come to weigh upon my chest, cradle my heart in your claws.

(a prayer to Mama for help with trauma nightmares/sleep paralysis. Taweret historically is associated with prayers for good sleep as a “nightmare”/demon herself)
Devotional work with Bast is sitting in a room with three nearly feral kittens, singing a lullaby Bast helped you write in the hopes of earning their trust.
“You want a godphone? Here.”
I dreamed a BUNCH this afternoon. The one that stands out: I’m on my phone. Where there’s usually a picture of a person, there’s a statue I recognize as Osiris. We text back and forth and I forget most of what was said (because can Osiris ever not, somehow, be cryptic?), but He said “I miss you”. (I pray to Netjer but I’ve admittedly not done offerings or devotional work in a long while, and not to Him in particular because of the beginner’s class). And then it hit me. We were texting on a phone. A LITERAL GODPHONE. Is this Osiris’ weird sense of humor?
After finding out that American Gods features real gods (Bast and Anubis as far as I know) I've had this feeling that I need to read it and I'm not sure why because before this I wasn't very interested but I read this line in the preface and I'm so excited If you've read this plz tell me what other gods are in it!
