Hey. I’ve been thinking. I know that most people treat Renamon in general (all of them) as automatically a girl, even though Tamers!Renamon explicitly claims that as a Digimon, they don’t really have a gender, but I’m pretty sure the Renamon in Digimon Survive, Miyuki’s Renamon, is a boy.

I understand that the translation for Survive is, uh, unique, and so how the text genders the Digimon (and occasionally the humans) can’t be trusted, but Renamon is most consistently addressed with ‘he/him’ pronouns, and more importantly, he spends most of the game as well as a significant portion of time post-identity reveal masquerading as Haru.

I’m pretty sure he’s more comfortable presenting as a male, even though it was a disguise, he genuinely seems to identify with the Haru disguise as much as he claims to hate Akiharu, and while he visibly appears as female in evolutions, again, Digimon textually don’t naturally have a biological sex, let alone a fixed gender identity, and the Partner Digimon are a visible exception to this.

Which leads me to an interesting story thread/opportunity; if Miyuki’s Digimon Partner is more comfortable presenting as male… what does that say about Miyuki and her own gender identity, that her Partner presents himself to the world as a male? Given that Kemonogami are textually the other half of their human’s soul…

Does Miyuki have something she needs to figure out about herself?

Since I really was into survive, I wanted to try to do something in that style! I had a lot of fun doing HerculesKabuterimon, if you like it, I could try on work with other digimon!
