“Of course, father. But aren’t you the tiniest bit excited to see what this new century will bring upon us? Think of all the rapid changes that happened in the last forty years. The discoveries, the technology, the expansion of our understanding. Who’s to tell what more is yet to come?”
“Kendall do not get ahead of yourself too much. You speak of the future ,but I’d rather you focus on the present. You know I wasn’t born a rich man and I sure as hell didn’t become one by dreaming.” His voice remained stiff, stripped of any emotion. His tone never got any lower or louder. “I earned my place by working hard and all those people that are so displeased by it, are all those that earned their fortunes simply because they were born under a tittle.”
As his father spoke, Kendall kept his gaze down, contemplating his words. The bigger figured man now approached him and put his hand on his shoulder.
“If you want to change anything, son, start changing yourself. Work harder. Prove your worth. Show me you deserve to sit on this chair one day.”
