Hi!! I saw that you write for Hawkgirl and I was wondering if you could please write Kendra with a gf/partner who forgets that she’s a hero and famous since to them she’s just kendra.
Just Kendra
Kendra Saunders x reader Synopsis: Out on a walk, you get startled when a mother and her children come up to your girlfriend. WARNING/CONTENT: mention of death & sickness, kendra mentions wanting kids sometime in the future WC: 791
It was easy to forget that Kendra was somewhat of a celebrity. That wasn’t at all because she was bad at her job—it was simply that when she was at home, cuddled in bed with you under a warm blanket or making pancakes (and burning them), she wasn’t Hawkgirl. She was just Kendra.
Today was one of those days. The two of you had decided to go for a walk as the sun was setting, and you’d ended up talking for so long that it was dark by the time you turned around to go home. You weren’t afraid of being out at night, not with Kendra by your side. You knew no harm could ever come to you.
… Yet that didn’t mean anything when suddenly—seemingly out of literally nowhere—a blonde woman with two young boys jumped in front of you. You jolted, your hand going from lazily holding Kendra’s fingers to clenching her bicep.
Kendra was tense for a moment, too, until she realized that this was simply a young mother with sons who were fans of Hawkgirl.
“I’m so sorry to startle you,” the woman quickly apologized. “I’m Dalila. This”—she gestured to her smaller son—“is Elvis,” and then she gestured to the older one, “and this is John. We were walking back home from getting ice cream across the street when we saw you, and the boys begged to come say hi.”
Kendra’s face softened, and a small smile replaced her usual frown—courtesy of her resting bitch face. “Yeah, no worries. Hi everyone,” she grinned, looking at the two boys on either side of their mother.
You couldn’t help but smile. Kendra was a little rough around the edges—downright prickly when it came to some people—but she’d always been soft for three things: you, children, and animals. Seeing her make these boys’ whole week made you proud. They were shy, but they instantly warmed up when Kendra started chatting with them.
“She really is amazing,” the mother of the boys, Dalila, quietly said to you while Kendra took selfies with Elvis and John.
You nodded in earnest agreement. “She is.”
Dalila looked at you kindly. “You’re very lucky.”
“I’m the lucky one,” Kendra interrupted, her signature grin on her face as she shot you a wink over her shoulder.
You blushed. “We’re both lucky.”
Dalila hummed kindly. “The boys have had it rough lately; their father passed recently. The hope Hawkgirl and the entire Justice Gang bring to the world has helped them a lot. It’s a stressful world for such young kids, and having heroes around to lift their spirits has been our saving grace most days.”
“I’m so sorry for your loss,” you told her, your voice sincere. “I’m glad Ken has been a help for you and your boys. I can’t imagine what you’re going through, and though Kendra may seem grumpy most of the time, I promise she loves helping out people just like you and your children. It’s what she does it for.”
“Thank you.” Dalila nodded. “I’m sorry, as well, to ruin your night. I tried to tell the boys that Hawkgirl was off-duty and enjoying her private time, but they took off down the street, and I freaked.”
You immediately shook your head. “Oh, please don’t worry about it. I don’t mind at all; neither does Kendra. We both love kids.”
After wrapping up with Dalila and her sons, you and Kendra continued the walk back to your shared apartment, grins still on both of your faces as you waved goodbye to the two little boys, who’d already been through so much in their short lives. Not only had their father passed, but the older of the boys, John, told Kendra that their grandfather was very sick. Kendra made their world brighter, though, just by being herself, and it warmed your heart to see those kids smile.
“Kind of makes you want to have our own, huh?” Kendra asked quietly, gently squeezing your hip.
You turned to look at her, a look of shock on your face. “You’ve never mentioned kids before.”
“I’ve never really wanted them,” she admitted. “But with you…” she trailed off.
The curiosity was eating at you as you waited a few moments for her to finish. “Well? With me what?”
“You make me want that crap,” Kendra sighed. “A house. A dog and a cat. Two point five kids. Any child I get to raise with you would be just… perfect.”
Your stomach gave a dramatic flutter. “I… agree. I’d love that one day.”
Kendra’s soft smile went back to her signature lazy smirk. She leaned forward and pressed her lips to yours for a few moments, leaving you gasping. “One day,” she promised.
