Jealous Kenelis
Sooo the Kenelis recording with Chris Coulter has been finished, mixed and mastered and it's sounding pretty hefty :)
Here is a little sneaky EP preview in the link above... a clip of "Don't Kill My Rock"...
Bam!
'THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING', KENELIS LIVE AT INDIGO2
Given the excellent body of original work to draw on, and Mel Sanson's ability to write great new stuff, there really is no desperate need for Kenelis to do covers. Having said that, however, when a reworking as inspired as this is the result, I will certainly not complain if they look for another suitable cover. I knew in advance that 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' would feature in the set at IndigO2 but wasn't really prepared for the result.
I was around when the original was released and have just watched a video of Nancy Sinatra and dancers performing it on a TV show, it certainly worked for its time but looking back at it from the 21st century there does seem to be a discrepancy between lyrical content and body language, with the seductive dance moves and facial expressions very much at odds with the lyrics.
Not so with Mel, confidently strutting the stage in her trademark 'DM' boots, I hesitate to refer to them as 'bovver bots' as their association with 'racist intolerant skinheads' is completely at odds with Mel's approach to life; although she certainly doesn't shirk when it comes to expressing her opinions. In my opinion this treatment of the song is absolutely perfect, leaving no ambiguity, this is very much a statement by somebody who will not be messed with and won't let you forget – 'a woman scorned' looks tame in comparison! I feel so privileged to have been there to experience it in its full power and glory, another treasured memory to file away in my head!
Mel Sanson "Kenelis" hits number 11 in the charts with "The L Project"!
On Feb. 11th 2012, The L Project released their charity single, "It Does Get Better", with the aim of raising as much money as possible to help combat LGBT bullying. The L Project is a collection of the UK's most talented lesbian performers, who gave up their time for free, coming together because of how passionately they believe in the cause.
