"Man, it sure is storming outside," Jack comments after his character is killed in Grand Theft Auto 4, looking over his shoulder at the window to see the rain coming down hard. "Do you think the power will go out?"
"Don't say that Jack!" Gavin whines, jumping a little when he hears the loud roar of the thunder overhead. "Now it's going to come true."
"Gavin stop being a wuss," Michael retorts. "It's not like lightening is going to strike you while inside you idiot."
"But Michael!" Gavin cries, starting an argument between the two.
Ray chuckles and, since Michael and Gavin weren't paying attention to the game, takes the opportunity to run their characters over with his van. He lets out a whoop of victory, "Ray wins!"
A collective groan is shared between the other five men in the room before Geoff speaks up.
"Alright dick heads. Ready for another round?"
Right before they could start another round, the lights start to flicker a couple of times. They all look at each other in confusion before the lights suddenly go out completely, plunging the room into darkness. The only light they had were the ones from their phones and the little light they got from the windows. Gavin opens his mouth to say something but screams instead when there is a knock on the door. It slowly opens to reveal Burnie standing there with a heavy duty flashlight in his hand.
"Everyone alright in here?" he asks, stepping into the room and letting the door fall shut behind him. "No one get shocked when the power went out?"
"Yeah we're fine Burnie," Ryan says from his spot on the couch. "Do you think the power will come back on soon?"
"Probably not. I looked outside and I think that last strike took out all the power in the area. Might be lucky if it comes back on before midnight."
Burnie pauses as the six achievement hunters share a groan. Thanks to the power going out they now lost all of their recording of their game, and they had been playing for a good hour. It wouldn't be a problem for them to replay it but they needed that footage for Monday's lets play.
"Is it storming bad out there?" Gavin questions as he pushes away from his desk.
"Oh yeah," Burnie answers. "It's coming down in sheets. Everyone is staying here until it lets up. Just to be safe."
"Good idea," Geoff says.
The guys hop out of their chairs or couch for Ryan, and sit on the floor in a circle, to give themselves more room and so Burnie wasn't the only one on the floor. Burnie takes a spot between Ray and Geoff and places the flashlight in the center of the circle, the light pointed towards the ceiling so it wouldn't shine into anyone's eyes.
"So what should we do to pass the time?" Ray asks.
"Truth or Dare!" was Gavin's instant reply.
"Fuck no! You'll make us do the stupidest things and everyone is probably just going to pick truth anyway!" Michael shouts, lightly hitting Gavin's shoulder.
"It's better than nothing," Jack adds. "We don't really have any board games to play around here. Unless we want to play a card game or something."
After a couple minutes of discussing and arguing, they decide to play a few rounds of BS or bullshit before playing some truth or dare. Gavin wouldn't stop complaining about it so they finally relented and said they could after they played BS. Jack pulls out his RoosterTeeth deck of cards from his desk and the game quickly starts. Laughter can be heard as well as much swearing, mainly from Michael, as they played. Jack manages to win the first round fairly quickly, causing the others to glare at him and shout in protest when they find out that he wasn't lying about his last cards being two 5's.
"It just worked out for me. Just got to be lucky sometimes," Jack says, leaning back against the couch a little to watch the game go on.
By the time the finish the first game, Gavin was in possession of half the deck. He wasn't very good at hiding his lies from the others. It wasn't really hard to figure out once they realized that he snickers every time he puts the incorrect card down. The next round started and this time took a while longer for a winner to be decided, as everyone was trying harder to see who was lying or not. Towards the end of the second game, Burnie had the most cards in his hand. This would then lead to Burnie making people pick up cards before they even put them down.
"Geoff. Yeah I'm gonna have to ask you to just take the pile there because I have all four of the King's so there's no sense in lying," Burnie says, a smirk on his face.
"Oh fuck you Burns," Geoff grumbles as he takes the small pile and adds it to his hand even though he was smiling just a little, finding it a little funny.
Burnie's smirk turns into a big grin as the game continues. To the surprise of the others Burnie ends up going on and winning the second round, making an amazing comeback. Three more rounds were played, the winners being Geoff, Michael and Jack again.
"This is getting boring," Gavin says. "Can we play truth or dare now?"
"You're just mad because you aren't winning," Ray points out.
Gavin lets out a huff, "I know that but it's still getting a little boring."
"Alright why don't you start then Gav," Ryan says as he helps Jack put the deck of cards away.
"Okay! Burnie truth or dare?"
"I'll pick truth for now." Burnie replies.
"What's the most embarrassing thing you've done while drunk?"
"That I can remember? Probably either the catbug incident or where I thought you were a chair."
Gavin chuckles, "I still find the last one hilarious."
"I know you do you little shit. Michael truth or dare?"
"Dare bitches!" Michael says, grinning.
"I dare you to go into find the first person you find and scare them."
"Psssh easy." Michael says as he climbs to his feet. He takes his phone and exits the office, the others listening to his footsteps get farther away. They sit in silence for a couple minutes before they hear someone scream at the top of their lungs. Gavin screams a little and jumps, landing in Ryan's lap. Ryan laughs at Gavin's scared face before pushing Gavin off of him as Michael walks back into the office, his left cheek a little red.
"I scared Barbara," Michael answers the unspoken question as he sits down in his spot. "She was not pleased with me."
"We can tell," Geoff says. "What did you do?"
"I just walked up to her quietly and then I softly whispered 'Hey' into her ear. I swear she jumped like five feet into the air before she saw it was me and slapped me. I was not surprised she slapped me though... Alright it's my turn. Jack truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"You are no fun. Anyway, what is the worst injury you've ever gotten?"
"That would have to be when I fell down the stairs and broke my arm a few years ago. I've been fortunate enough not to get into any car accidents."
"Jesus Jack," Burnie says. "That must have sucked."
"You have no idea. I was home alone at the time as well. Ray truth or dare?"
"Eh I'll pick truth as well." Ray says, ignoring the boo that Michael made.
"Out of everyone in this room, who do you like the most?"
Ray decides to make the guys wait by pretending to think it over. He also adjusts his jacket to hide the blush that was slowly starting to form on his face. His eyes flick over to Burnie for a split second before looking at the flashlight.
"I'm going to have to go with Burnie guys."
"You're fired Ray," Geoff says jokingly.
Ray chuckles and turns to ask Ryan truth or dare. The more harmless truths and dares go on for a couple rounds. Dares ranging from Ray doing a handstand for five seconds to Geoff singing Bad Romance horribly to Jack pretending he's a penguin and even having Gavin speak like a woman till he was asked truth or dare again. Gavin was less than pleased about this because the guys deliberately ignored asking Gavin till Jack decided to be nice and ask him. Gavin decides to get his revenge by taking the game up a notch and he already knew he was going to be asking first.
"Ryan truth or dare." he asks.
"Dare," is Ryan's reply.
"I dare you to kiss Geoff on the lips."
Everyone's jaw drop for a few seconds before Geoff says, "What the fuck Gavin!"
"What? I wanted to make this game more interesting. And it's not like you have to full on make out or anything. Just a peck on the lips that's all. Are you going to do it Ryan or are you scared?"
Ryan rolls his eyes before crawling over to Geoff. Geoff's eyes widen for a second before Ryan quickly kisses Geoff on the lips. He pulls away and crawls back over to his spot, missing Geoff's face turning light red. It wasn't easy to see it in the light either so none of the others spot the blush either.
"There happy Gavin?" Ryan asks.
"Yes," Gavin replies, looking smug.
"Anyway, Burnie truth or dare."
"Hey I'm gonna get some water I'll be right back," Ray says climbing to his feet and exiting the office.
He turns his the flashlight app on his phone on as he makes his way to the kitchen, his footsteps silent as he walks. He can hear conversations coming from some of the other rooms as he walks by but doesn't stop to see who was in each one. He reaches the kitchen and looks through the cupboard for a glass. He places his phone on the counter top, the light facing up as he fills the glass with tap water. Right as the glass fills up he feels a hand grip his shoulder and he screams, jumping into the air and dropping the glass into the sink. He feels his glasses slip off his face as he whips around to see who it was who scared him
"Whoa Ray calm down its me!" Ray manages to make out Burnie's outline in all the blurriness.
"You fucking asshole." Ray says, reaching up to shove Burnie away, a small smile working his way onto his face as Burnie starts to burst into giggles.
"Sorry man. I got dared to do it right after you left."
"Yeah yeah laugh it up. I will have my revenge on you and Ryan."
"I'm sure you will." Ray sees Burnie bend down, probably to pick up his glasses. His blurry outline comes back into view. "Here are you're glasses."
"Ah thanks man. Can't see shit without them."
"...You look pretty cute without your glasses on."
Ray blinks, almost missing what Burnie whispered but he did indeed hear that right. He puts his glasses on and opens his mouth to ask Burnie what he meant by that but Burnie was already heading back to the Achievement Hunter office. Ray just shrugs, deciding to ask Burnie about it later and turns to pick up his glass. Grateful it wasn't broken, he refills the glass before heading back to the office.
"Hey Ray," Ryan asks, a grin on his face. "What took you so long?"
"You know why you fucker," Ray says, nudging Ryan with his knee as he walks past. "Just know I will get my revenge."
"I am shaking in my shoes," Ryan sarcastically replies.
Ray sits down and the game continues with Burnie asking Jack truth or dare. He takes a sip of his water as he watches Jack pick truth and have to tell the guys about his most embarrassing moment while drunk like Burnie had to. As they all share a laugh at Jack's expense, Ray looks over at Burnie, his words running through his head on repeat.
'Did Burnie mean that?' Ray wonders. 'Or was that apart of the dare Ryan gave him?'
Burnie must have felt Ray's stare because he turns to look at Ray. The smile he gives to Ray has Ray crossing out the apart of the dare out of his head. Plus Ray would like to hope that Ryan wasn't cruel enough to make someone do something like that for a dare. But then again... it was Ryan they were talking about.
"So how much longer are we going to do this?" Jack asks, snapping Ray out of his thoughts. "I don't know about you guys but I'm starting to run out of ideas."
"Yeah same here," Geoff agrees. "Any other games you guys want to play?"
"We could play like hide and go seek or something," Michael offers.
"But it's too dark for us to see," Gavin complains.
"Oh stop being a baby Gavin. We all find a place to hide and the person who is it gets to use the light from their phones to look around and find us. First one found will be it next. When you're found come back here and wait. The person who's it then goes to see how many of the other he can find before giving up. And there is no set base so that means you stay hidden till you are found or the person it says they give up."
"So it's kinda like a reverse hide and go seek." Ray comments.
"It can be whatever the fuck you want to call it man. I'm just explaining shit."
"We should set boundaries so it doesn't take us forever to find everyone." Geoff adds.
"No going into any rooms that have the doors closed, keep doors that are open open and if you go up stairs don't go too far from them and no hiding in the warehouse. I'll be it first. Will counting to 50 sound good?"
Everyone nods and scrambles to their feet as Michael starts to count. They exit the room and quickly scatter, trying to find a good spot. Ray ends up hiding in a spacious cabinet in the kitchen and closes the door enough to make sure he doesn't somehow end up trapped in there forever. He makes sure hes comfortable enough and gets ready to be there for possibly a while. Not too long after he found his hiding place does he hear 'Ready or not you fuckers. Here comes Mogar!" Ray silently chuckles a little at Michael's exclamation. He tries to keep his breathing light as he hears Michael walking towards the kitchen, pausing every so often to check some spot before moving on.
"Really Gavin? Why am I not surprised I find you of all people first!" Ray hears Michael sigh.
"I thought this was a really good hiding spot Michael!" Gavin whines.
"Oh yeah I totally didn't see your fucking foot sticking out you idiot."
Ray hears Gavin make a weird sound before his footsteps fade away followed by a door opening and closing. Michael's footsteps pick back up and Ray feels himself start to sweat a little from how hot it was in the cabinet and the fact that the footsteps were getting closer to his spot. The steps stop right in front of the cabinet and Ray has to hold his breath, afraid that even the slightest sound will give him away. The door starts to open a little before a clanging sound echos through the building. Michael stops opening the door and his steps quickly move away, towards the sound. Ray lets out a big breath of relief and lets his back gently lay against the back of the cabinet. A couple seconds later Michael's voice is heard again.
"Found ya both," his voice sounds very smug. "Hiding together probably wasn't the best idea."
"Well it was till that can got knocked over," Ryan's voice replies. "I got here first then Geoff just kinda jumped in with me."
"Yeah I did." Geoff says chuckling.
Ryan and Geoff chat a little as they walk to the office as Michael continues his search. Ray silently tries to shift around, keeping his ass from falling asleep. Michael doesn't come back to check the cabinet, instead searching around the area where he most likely found Geoff and Ryan. A door is opened and Michael makes a surprised sound.
"Jack how the fuck did you manage to fit in here? That doesn't look like a very comfortable spot at all."
"I'm not even sure myself to be honest Michael. Just kinda jumped in and hoped for the best really."
Michael and Jack share a laugh before Jack's footsteps are heard heading to the office.
"Alright I just gotta find Burnie and Ray now. Where are you fuckers??"
Ray almost wants to laugh because Michael almost found him not even 5 minutes ago. He just hopes that Michael doesn't remember that he stopped looking there and come back. Because of this Ray doesn't pull the door back to where it was at first. If Michael sees the door slightly open he'll assume that he's already checked it right? Ray certainly hoped so.
"Jesus christ you two hid well. I'm not gonna give up though."
'I wasn't expecting you to,' Ray thinks. 'You are stubborn sometimes.'
A loud sneeze is suddenly heard, so loud it echos a couple times. Ray wonders if everyone in the building heard that it was really loud.
"Jesus christ Burnie! What the fuck was that?!"
"There was a lot of dust in here I swear to god." Burnie replies, sneezing again. "At first it was just little sneezes but man I could not hold that last one back at all."
"I can fucking tell. Just gotta find Ray."
"Dude you are probably never going to find him. For all we know he's hiding in plain sight or something."
"That is true and finding him will probably take me like for-fucking-ever. Alright Ray you can come out I give."
Ray lets out a whoop of victory and climbs out of the cabinet. He waits at the bottom of the stairs for Michael and Burnie.
"You were fucking down here?!" Michael exclaims. "Where the fuck were you?"
"Remember that cabinet you were about to search before Ryan and Geoff made whatever it was fall over? I was in that fucking cabinet man."
"Are you kidding me?"
"No way man. I swear my heart was beating like a mile a minute when you started to open that door."
"I bet," Burnie says. "Come on lets get back to the others. God knows what they are doing."
Ray, Michael and Burnie head back to the office and open the door to find Geoff, Jack, Ryan and Gavin sitting in a circle. They start another game with Gavin being the one it. Turns out that Gavin was terrible at being it because he could not find anyone for half an hour. He only found Michael because as Gavin passed by his hiding spot he burst out to yell at Gavin for sucking so badly. The others were laughing as they heard Gavin squeal loudly followed by Michael's shouting. Geoff was found because he was still laughing from Gavin's squeal. He gave up shortly after finding Geoff because of how embarrassed he was by getting the piss scared out of him by Michael. Since Michael already went it was Geoff's turn. It didn't take as long as it took Gavin and unlike Michael he did find everyone in thirty minutes. In the end they decided to stop playing hide and seek and try to find something else to do, as everyone was quickly running out of good hiding spots. A quick check tells them that it was still raining and they still had no power. In the end they brought the RT deck of cards back out and were playing go fish.
"God we must be really fucking bored to be playing go fish," Ray says.
"Well it's the only thing I could think of so unless we can think of something more fun to do we'll have to play this till then," Geoff adds.
'Geoff does have a point. At least we aren't bored out of our minds,' Ray thinks as he moves to join the new game of go fish. 'That's a positive out of all of this.'
"Jack you have any 5's?" Gavin asks, starting the game off.
"Go fish." Jack replies, smiling when Gavin swears a little.
After Jack when Geoff, then Ryan, then Gavin again and then it was finally Ray's turn.
"Burnie do you have any Ace's?" Ray asks.
"Yeah here." Burnie says, handing him one Ace.
As Ray takes the card from Burnie, their hands brush for a few moments. Both of them freeze up, their faces becoming light red as they stare at each other. A few seconds later, Ray pulls the card back into his hand before placing the four aces down in his pile. Ray starts to have a hard time keeping or making eye contact with Burnie for the rest of the game, every time he almost does he ends up blushing and looking away.
'Burnie either could be doing the same thing,' Ray reasons. 'Or he's really enjoying watching me flip out.'
During the second round Ray was sure that Burnie was starting to brush their hands on purpose now. Every time they had to hand each other cards, there was Burnie brushing his hand against Ray's for a couple seconds. And every time Ray tries to keep himself from blushing but it usually doesn't last long before his face burns a light red.
"Ugh is this rain ever going to stop!" Michael groans, laying back on the floor while being careful not to hit his head on the table legs. "Or at least the power come back on."
"I'm sure the guys are working hard to get the power back on Michael," Burnie assures the younger man. "And I just checked my phone and the storm should be over in an hour or so."
"Thank god! I need time away from Gavin and his annoyingness. You can only handle so much Gavin."
"Michael why," Gavin complains.
"I'm going to refill my drink," Ray says, standing up and grabbing his empty glass.
"Hey I'll come with," Burnie says, jumping to his feet and following Ray out of the office as the guys start up a new game with Michael and Gavin's conversation fading away as they close the door.
Ray and Burnie walk into the kitchen and stand in silence as they fill up their glasses of water. Eventually Ray can't take the silence and turns to look at Burnie.
"Soooo," Ray drawls. "What did you mean by 'I looked good without my glasses on.'"
"Hm?" Burnie replies, looking confused and innocent.
Ray snorts and lightly shoves Burnie's shoulder, "You know what I'm talking about. When Ryan dared you to scare me and my glasses fell off."
"Oh right...that part. Um, well what I'm trying to say is-"
Right before Burnie can finish his sentence and very loud crack of thunder can be heard. Ray jumps at the sound, not expecting it and ends up jumping into Burnie's arms and looking around in panic. He sees Burnie smirking at him and quickly shoves Burnie away, his face turning red with embarrassment.
"Sorry," Ray mutters.
"It's fine," Burnie admits. "I quite liked that actually."
Ray's head snaps over to look at Burnie, whose smirk turned into a sheepish grin. He blinks for a moment before a small smile graces his face.
"Was that you just inadvertently tell me that you liked me Burnie Burns?" Ray asks.
Burnie shrugs a little and scratches the back of his head, "I guess I did, didn't I? That's one way to tell someone I guess."
Ray chuckles, "Yeah it is. I guess I might like you a bit too."
Burnie chuckles as well and his grin gets bigger, "Well this day isn't so bad after all. The storm did bring out a positive in all of this."
"That it did. We should probably head back before the others think we're doing something we clearly aren't."
"Eh let them think what they want. Nothing we can really do to stop them. And besides," Burnie leans closer to Ray. "That's not entirely a bad thing is it?"
Ray would be lying if he said his face didn't turn a dark red when Burnie leaned in. He opens his mouth to say something when Burnie quickly kisses Ray on the lips, making whatever he was about to say vanish from his brain. Burnie pulls back and Ray's jaw drops open, his mind trying to process what just happened to him. Burnie laughed for a moment before realizing that Ray froze up.
"Ray you alright?" Burnie says, reaching up and snapping his fingers in front of his face a few times. "Oh god I broke Ray. Good going me."
Ray snaps to his senses and shakes his head a bit to clear his head.
"No you didn't break me Burnie. I was just taken off guard by that that's all. It's nothing."
"Oh good," Burnie replies. "I don't think Geoff and the others would be too happy with me if I broke you."
"I can see Gavin now, saying 'Oh Burnie broke Ray!' in that squawking tone of his and Geoff would just shake his head at you."
Burnie chuckles, "I can see that as well. Then Michael would yell at Gavin to be quiet before yelling at me for breaking you."
"Exactly. Anyway we better be heading back before the guys really do start thinking we're doing something."
Burnie nods and the two grab their glasses and head back to the Achievement Hunter office.
"Oh hey it looks like the rain is letting up a bit," Ray comments as they reach the office.
Burnie turns and looks and sure enough the rain wasn't coming down as hard as it was a few hours ago. It was still storming out but not as bad. It wouldn't be too long before they could all go home.
"Hey guys the rain is letting up a bit," Ray announces as they enter the room.
"About fucking time," Michael mumbles, anger on his face as he hands Gavin two cards. Gavin's face looks a little smug as he puts the cards in his hand. "That means we can leave soon right?"
"Yeah probably won't be long," Burnie adds as he sits down on the couch with Ray joining him shortly after.
They watch the game played in silence, laughing when Gavin called bullshit on Michael knowing he had a three in his hand to Geoff shouting in joy when he wins the round. The group jumps a little when there is a knock on the door but quickly relax when Matt's head peeks into the room.
"Hey guys the storm's let up enough fot it to be safe to drive home." he says. "If anyone needs a ride better get it now."
Right as Matt finishes talking, the lights flicker for a moment before turning back on. A collective cheer fills the room as they celebrate finally getting electricity back on.
"We can check what we all lost tomorrow," Geoff says, standing up and stretching his back. "Right now I just want to go home and get some sleep. It is late."
The others nod in agreement and go around to collect their things. Geoff and Jack exit the office together first, making plans for coming in early tomorrow to make sure everything was working and figure out what they lost as well as talking about having to redo the Grand Theft Auto 4 Let's Play. Ryan was the next to exit, waving good bye to the lads and Burnie as he jogs off to make sure everything at his desk in the warehouse was off before leaving. Michael and Gavin left once Lindsay walked over to the office and Michael offered to give Gavin a ride back to his house. That just left Ray and Burnie alone in the office. Ray grabs his jacket and moves towards the door when Burnie places a hand on his shoulder stopping him.
"What's up Burnie?" Ray asks, turning to look at Burnie.
"Well," Burnie says, scratching the back on his head with his free hand. "I was wondering if you...maybe wanted to come over to my place and play video games or watch a movie?"
"Why Burnie Burns," Ray starts, a smirk on his face. "Are you asking me on a date?"
"Something like that. Nothing too fancy just yet. Maybe next week if you don't get tired of me by then."
Ray laughs, patting Burnie on the back. "I don't think I'll get tired of you. I was thinking it would be the other way around."
"Nah you keep things interesting and change things up too much to be boring."
"True. Sure why not. After not playing video games for a few hours it'll be nice to actually play some before going to sleep."
Burnie smiles and nods before leading Ray out of the office and over to his car after he turns the lights off and locks up. The rain was now nothing but a light drizzle, the thunder nothing but a low rumble in the distance with an occasional flicker of lightening every so often. Ray hopes into the passenger seat of Burnie's car and stares out the window as he drives over to Burnie's, wondering what lies ahead for the two of them.
