TMIT: Does she recall the first time she struck a bulls-eye when shooting with her bow? How rewarding was it to see the merits of all the practice?
Cen remembers in vivid detail the first time she made the perfect shot, as it were. She could tell you what the weather was like, what time of day it was, and even what she was wearing.
Her skill with a bow did not at all come naturally. In fact, her brother was the one that had a more natural ability with it. She was like an awkward cow trying to shoot a barn when it came to handling a bow. Fortunately, Cen’s father had the patience of a saint, and through very, very hard work and much practice, she got better.
It’s a memory that she keeps to herself, a little bit out of shame for her reaction and just because it’s a precious thought. When the arrow hit the bulls-eye, she screamed, and danced around like an idiot. Her dad tried to not laugh but in the end, they were both on the ground in tears.
It’s because of this memory that she can still his hear laughter, and that is something she clings to.
