The director is Rintaro, famous for the theatrical version of "Galaxy Express 999," and the screenplay is written by Katsuhiro Otomo, famous for "AKIRA."
I was impressed by the heartwarming interaction between Kenichi and Tima, the machinations of Duke Red and Rock, and the stark contrast between the surface and the underground.
The opening quote, "All ages dream of what will continue," really resonated with me.
It's one of my favorite animated films.
The conflicts between humans, between robots and humans, and even between adults and children were particularly striking.
It was impressive to see how the seemingly emotionless robots were actually quite emotional, and how the rational humans, too, experienced love and hatred based on a wide range of emotions.
I was struck by the contrast between the three characters: Kenichi, a kind and courageous boy; Tima, a child robot who is more human-like and innocent than anyone else; and Rock, a human who is more robotic than anyone else, and an adult who is childlike despite being Duke Red.
