SPOILERS (considering Fitz's past, and other things)for The Tawny Man Trilogy and The Farseer Trilogy:
Hey, first post ever and I'm really sorry if this comes off as stupid...But does anyone else obsess over Fitz's past like I do? Like, the first six years of his life? The fact that he used to help herd sheep when he was only 5? Everybody talks about the symbolism between Fitz being compared to a dog, and being bonded to a wolf, and how the royal family he serves represent themselves as a buck. And I love all of those intrepretations! They're very interesting to read with the whole predator vs prey discussion, and how Fitz is treated by his loved ones!
But I really can't get over the fact that he could've, possibly, be a shepherd in another life?
And maybe this symbolism is so obvious nobody feels the need to speak about it, and in that case, I'm really sorry, but I can't stop getting the whole "Left like a lamb to slaughter" when it comes to his grandfather giving him away to the royal family. Like, that is what his mother must've felt.
I mean...And also I just like to imagine an AU where Fitz (Well, Keppet) stayed and grew up with his mother, and he's basically a shepherd. Fitz might've bonded with a dog that guards the sheep, making him more into the role of a protector rather than a weapon to be used at will. Or maybe (somehow) he still manages to find Nighteyes, and Nighteyes helps him. And the people in his village is just like "Oh, Keppet? Yeah, quiet kid, strange one, but he tends to the sheep pretty well, and is a rather gentle soul once you get to know him"
But there's still fucking hell going on in The Six Duchies.
It wouldn't be all happy-go-lucky with dear Fitz, though. Can you imagine the dreams he would have? The eyes he would see through? Visions of a pale jester, or a man who looks just like him pouring over maps, perhaps the victims of the Red Ship Raiders themselves?
But that's just me wondering about things, I know it won't make sense lol.
Oh hey yea *eyes glaze over* Do you think Keppet’s mother learned of FitzChivalry and grieved him when everyone thought he was dead? Do you think she blamed herself for his wit magic that was one of the proprietary reasons for his death? Do you think Keppet’s mother searched for him even after that day in Buckkeep town? She never knew the full extent of what the Farseer’s did to her little Keppet. It mourns me. His mountain mother of mint and golden hair. A woman he craved for and loved as a child, even if he forced himself to forget her.
Tiny Keppet helping his mére with the sheep <3
I can't draw adult or teen Fitz for shit whenever I try so far so here's him as a recently abandoned baby. Idfk man.
I wish Fitz had tried to find his mother in the mountains, the scene where she sees him at the market is so sad
