Halo. I don't think humans are divine. Humans are the parasitic aliens we are afraid may someday attack us in the future and destroy the planet. Elephants have been a part of the Indian identity for years. This visit to the kerala elephant Sanctuary was a bit disturbing though. The cost of human consumption and greed is so apparent here. We are cutting forest after forest to build homes. A family of four has two properties - one away from the city, one in the city - both for convenience. Not realising that for the cost of the getaways - we have cut down a few hundred trees more. We are constantly invading their space and then calling them savage animals when they have to come to us to just survive. We then construct electric fences to keep them out. Their home that we invaded and occupied. These elephants are majestic and so loyal. They are moody and get angry and act stubborn when being given medicines. They let us ride them, let us use them for our good. This was my first meal in Kerala. Good old Malabar porotta, Geamedakam curry, accompanied by in house special - three types of Sambhar. Oh yum! The Curry Tree restaurant in Kochi is as zero waste as possible. Everything is plastic free. The food was decent. The staff was really friendly. The beautiful church was established in 1791. The church is called St Anthony's Church. Religion does not attract me, but the artwork does. The silence in the church and the immense use of colour is fascinating to me. The relationship of Kerala and Christianity is actually older than many other parts of the world... It came here in 52 AD with St Thomas. There are so mamy Indian traditions that are intermingled with christian ones - including lighting the traditional lamps at churches, use of incense, kolam, the decoration, taking off chappals.
