Hope I got this in if not, that’s totally fine!
But I was wondering if you could explain the thought behind star ratings you did for the gods. Like are they just for show/extra stuff or will it be used for the plot some how.
If it’s too spoiler-y or complicated you don’t have to of course!
U got it in time \o/!! And oh, this is fun question. For those wondering, we’re referring to the new “Key Attributes” area in some of the full character profiles on the new website, midway thru:
The answer is that this area is mostly for fun / extra stuff! I considered doing something like this for a while, b/c I enjoy working with attributes and stats applied to characters -- the type you see in RPGs but also in some RP groups. And sparring + dueling is a part of the DEITIES lore. So the Key Attributes section was me thinking: “if the DEITIES cast were following RP/gaming mechanics, how would their stats spread relative to each other?”
If other’s are interested I can write some more formal notes for it, but here’s a rough summary -- idk if they’ll make much sense yet but here’s my attempt to explain them:
Strength -- i.e. “attack”; how much raw power or force can they exert behind their strikes?
Durability -- i.e. “defense”; how well can they take or absorb a powerful strike or spell?
Agility -- “speed” and reflexes; how fast can they move, dodge, or execute a strike or spell?
Endurance -- i.e. “stamina”; how long can they keep up momentum behind their strikes/spells?
Recovery -- How well can they rally or heal themselves when injured, or when their energy is depleted?
Magic -- How potent are their magic skills and affinities, and when casting spells?
Beyond that, there’s no significant plot reason for the attributes -- except maybe as a reference for how the deities measure against each other while sparring/battling. For example, let’s compare Set and Horus -- I’ll screenshot them here for ease:
Both of them are “maxed” at 22.5/30, so they are equal in that regard to reflect how they are said to be evenly-matched in the mythology. But giving them the exact same spread would have been a bit boring, so I had them specialize in different areas.
Set is objectively strong -- one of the strongest in the pantheon, to nod to his mythology and epithets. He’s experienced in various types of battle, and is highly-skilled with chaos magic, so that’s what his stats are meant to reflect. But he does have a [loosely-speaking] weak stat, which is his Recovery. There’s an in-story reason for this, but I’ll leave it up to speculation for now.
Horus, meanwhile, is fairly strong himself, but he’s purposely ‘close-but-not-quite’ in most of his stats when compared to Set. Part of it is because frankly, Set has had more years of experience than Horus. But Horus’s recovery is far better than Set’s, and his Agility is his strongest stat, as a nod to being a falcon (the fastest birds of prey), and to having good reflexes, in part thanks to his Eye.
TL;DR -- Set can hit relentlessly hard and take several hits himself, up to a certain point. Meanwhile, Horus can hit fast and evade strikes, as well as recover from them more quickly. So that’s one way to compare everyone’s stats and visualize where they excel with their power.
