Okay, I'm way behind but I'm finally starting Fire Emblem Three Houses. Do you have any advice, or is there anything I should know before I pick my house?

Join the Black Eagles

okay no but seriously - considering how you can only pick your first house once, I don't think there's definitive advice on how to pick your first house, but I'll try:

I don't know how many runs you're aiming for as this game is made for playing all four routes for the full experience, but that can also be time-consuming. If you think you might only play one route, just go with your gut by all means! Pick your favourite house or characters!

If you're committed to playing more, it gets more difficult, let me tell you why I picked Black Eagles and why I ended up pretty happy with that choice:

- I thought Edelgard and the Empire would be the House Leader and Country I'd be least interested in so I'd save the others for later and give her a chance. Edelgard TOOK that chance, I ended up loving her character and route much more than expected.

- I really like the Black Eagles students.

- silly but: just my gut instinct of BIRD house and disappointment at Hogwarts tests always putting me in Gryffindor when I should be in Ravenclaw

- I knew from others that Claude's route uncovers a lot of lore and I'm VERY interested in that. Naturally, I wanted to drag out my own clueless period about that for as long as possible to juggle ideas and theories at my leisure and decided that'll be my last route. (Even if the curiosity until I get there is killing me)

- something I only learned later but makes me want to recommend picking Black Eagles first: The route is shorter and has less fancy things like cutscenes and anime stills. Choosing this route last might make it look underwhelming in comparison even though it's pretty good by itself IMO

so... yeah, checking one of the many lists that tell you what each route has to offer and seeing what you want to puzzle over for the longest time might be a good call? Maybe not?

It's very hard to give advice on the house choice, really. In my completely biased opinion and if you're not opposed, I'd suggest Black Eagles first for the reasons stated above, and because I'd liked to be able to talk to seine who has played it. But really, it's probably just best to follow whatever your head tells you first!

Oh, and what's more: recruiting characters is easy, so if you have favs in other houses that shouldn't be a problem, I'd be happy to help with that.

There's so many more tips I'm sure I have but this is long enough already ans I gotta run so I'll add to this later!

Out of those color palettes I would say "guidance"? Like, in general I would associate you with earthy brown and green tones that are kinda muted? With some yellow to brighten everything up. But if you ask me why I would write a very long paragraph about it.

I say that bc I noticed a trend that, generally at least, my online friends seem to connect me with cool/bright colors while my IRL friends connect me with earthy/muted/warm ones and that fascinates me.

(speaking of color temperature, that palette thing has an overabundance of cool tones over warmer ones, or does it just seem like that to me)

I WOULD BUY SOME. Use same colours but style them diffrently.

adfghjhgfgh thank you guys!! just based off these initial reactions, i think id do two series. series 1 would be older driver helmets (like Bruce, Francois, Niki, etc), and then series 2 would be like 2000s-today’s driver helmets. 

i mean im still worried about copyright (i don’t want to profit off another artist’s work, so id do my best to reach out to the initial helmet designers and see if they’d be fine with it), but i maaaaay just look more into doing this.

I’d say “create the AU you want to see in the world” but I’ll probably never be fast enough to draw comics which is A SHAME because honestly I can see how that’d be hilarious!?

To be fair, Tsuruhime trusts almost everybody EXCEPT Kanbei, and Kanbei trusts basically nobody UNLESS there’s mention of The Key, but usually he’s the manipulator, not the manipulated... I mean the whole lead up went like this: - Kanbei goes “Huh, maybe I can use her divination powers to my advantage” - he somehow tries to win her as an ally by very directly warning her that people will try to use her powers by taking advantage of her naivete and ignorance - it goes as well as you’d expect, not because she goes “whoa you’re right but what about YOU”, but because she goes “!!! How RUDE!” - RIGHT AFTERWARDS Tsuru gets a letter from Yoshitsugu sweet-talking her into working for him and because he’s “SO NICE” she enthusiastically accepts doing their dirty work and needs like three additional reminders by different people of what Kanbei warned her about right at the beginning before she catches on - THE IRONY. - Kanbei and Tsuruhime meet again at Sekigahara where they immediately start bickering again.

in conclusion, given the chance they could... actually learn a lot from each other?? Like not listening when people are overly polite, mentioning keys, or just. Yoshitsugu.

Would you like to share theories and headcanons about Sengoku Basara? I too am seeking other fans

uuuh honestly since I LOVE Basara but mostly live on the crack it provides, most of my “theories” (haha) or headcanons I can come up with on the spot without going into detailed discussions are just, well, crack:

Kotaro Fuuma: excels at being the coolest, most capable and fearsome Shinobialso Kotaro Fuuma: also excels at being the absolute biggest WEIRDO in Sengoku Basara (I repeat, in Sengoku Basara) by actually not being cool and suave at all but having a literal bird-brain. Bird-kin, if you will. He doesn’t care much about anything or anyone, he’s a simple man - he sees a bird an hits upvote, he gets an order from the Hojo clan and he happily obeys (for reasons another theory explains). Both explains why he keeps rescuing Tsuruhime, who’s a friend of his boss AND literally Little Crane.  Please imagine Sasuke learning about this.

there’s a theory that Kotaro is actually an incarnation/remnant/idek/??? of the first head of the Hojo clan watching over his descendants. I’m not sure if I subscribe to thacompletely but I think it’s pretty interesting.

anyone in Sengoku Basara who can think like 2 steps ahead qualifies as a tactician. This also includes a bunch of characters who aren’t officially strategists. Who needs to be all that smart though when the Sengoku Basara setting doesn’t exactly operate on earthly logic and cosmic rules, anyway.

speaking of which, Kanbei isn’t really -that- much of an idiot, he just has a ton of bad luck. And gets carried away a bit. And can’t shut up so he keeps revealing all of his ~brilliant plans~ all the time. yeah okay he’s a BIT of an idiot

not so much a theory/headcanon but Kyougoku Maria? I’ve always wondered why she never looked to me like she belonged in a Basara game. Look at her. She’s a Griffith expy.

For me, it's a mixed bag; I enjoy creating content and writing new work, but I find it important to get that validation from a reader. Some of my works are written for the attention of one person, so all I really want is for that individual to get enthusiastic and give me feedback. Part of it comes from my original intentions.  When I write fic,  for example, I've got a specific audience in mind, so it does smart when I don't the as much attention as I'd like.  With my original works, it's really cool to see people react to it.          Though yeah, I agree that the love of art and making content should be the primary reason for making things.  I can't imagine dedicating so much of my life to writing if it was always such a painful process!

For me there's a difference in the intention. I create art for myself, so I can enjoy it. If I would bake you a cake, I would do it for you, to make you, happy so when you won't react I would be sad

When you make things for a specific person and they don’t react, it’s perfectly understandable to be unhappy when there’s no reaction at all to gauge whether they like it or not!

In that case, it doesn’t even really matter if it’s about gifts that go unappreciated or commissioned works that go without feedback, or just self-advertising for commissions/giveaways/etc which goes ignored, since all of these have a goal that involves an audience and goes beyond the joy of simply creating.

That’s a very specific context though, and not one I often see adressed - if it is, it’s always very clear, but that is not the kind of complaint I meant. Those would be much more general:

Creators share but the audience doesn’t engage, or not as much as the person thinks it should. And THAT is where I have trouble following. How does one determine how much or what kind of recognition is adequate?

One measure I can think of is the unfortunate but ever-present comparing of oneself to others and how much attention THEY get; which is a really wobbly measure and also pretty harmful. Also common is “I put so much effort into this and no one reacts”, which makes it seem like recognition by others should be the reward for the effort, but??? I don’t know how it’s for you fellow creators but in my works, a shit-ton of effort doesn’t necessarily SHOW very plainly in the piece. It could, but doesn’t always. Meanwhile, something I just shook out of my sleeve may be received much better.

Anyway, my thoughts are fraying and I’m beginning to ramble I guess. I have a lot to say about this but trouble expressing it neatly. The bottom line though is that I often get the feeling for many people, creating isn’t as much about SHARING WITH the audience but MAKING FOR the audience. The latter just seems like setting yourself up for disappointment when you put the worth of your stuff in other people’s hands (or heads). I fully encourage people to create art THEY like, even love and are truly passionate about, so if nobody eats their cake, they can happily eat it themselves.

I don't really think someone who knows what they're talking about counts as a know it all. People just don't like being told that they're wrong.

Yeah, it’s very situational, too. Throw me into a different circle of people with different knowledge sets where I’m basically a fish out of water and I’m not much of a know-it-all anymore because, well, I don’t know ALL and certainly not what they are talking about. I may get a few moments where I suspect someone is still talking out of their asses but I don’t know enough to refute it so I gotta shut up and… there goes my know-it-all-ness, I presume?The point being, now that I think of it - know-it-alls aren’t necessarily people who KNOW things but just dispense their knowledge (real or imagined) at every chance they get. Which is obviously annoying and even upsetting to people who - and you’re right about that - don’t like being told they’re wrong. Especially not frequently. Especially not in front of an audience.

……..I don’t know where I’m going with this, my rambling mode has activated, haha. Maybe I’m not a know-it-all after all, though that’s hard to accept being how many times I’ve been called that. Hm.

Maybe know-it-alls should actually be called know-it-betters
