A new research method shows that photos taken by drones allow scientists to accurately measure marine mammals without having to catch them. Years of dedicated conservation efforts has brought the Amur leopard population from only 30 individuals to 103. This is the first time in decades that the population has been over 100 animals. When the population was at its lowest scientists were seriously considering bringing the entire population into captivity to protect them from poachers and boost the population.
