Since William is probably an upper class man I can see him criticizing Michael's grunge phase, his longer hair, eyeliner, black nail polish, ragged clothing... He then started dating Harley and Michael wouldn't let his dad live it down ever again.

btw harley is visibly haunted by his past (both what he did and what they did to him) and William's just like "Yeah crazy things do be happening" everytime someone mentions what he did
