OKAY BUT

KHARTHUR ROBOT AU

WHEN KHAN IS A BODYGUARD ROBOT

And Arthur finds him dumped in a back alley and feels bad and takes him home and fixes him up enough to get him working

And Khan works on himself, silent, while Arthur tries to do little things to take care of him without Khan noticing (Khan always notices)

Arthur expecting Khan to leave and go back to wherever he came from when he's fixed but Khan never leaves

Khan just stays and stares and watches and takes care of himself and lets Arthur take care of him

And then one day someone breaks into Arthur's home in the night expecting it to be an easy target, not realizing Khan was there, awake, alert, ready

Arthur waking up in the morning to find the subdued criminal and Khan with eyes glowing red over him, keeping him there

Arthur calling the police in a panic and when the burglar is taken away Khan comforts him with tea and blankets and holds Arthur

The two of them slowly getting closer and Arthur being confused because robots have gotten to the point where yeah, they're practically human, but still it's weird to have feelings for a robot and robot's don't have feelings, right?

Trillian dropping in and being surprised by Khan when Khan tries to attack her and Arthur has to stop him

Arthur and Trillian having an argument because Trillian is a Robot's Rights Activist and is telling Arthur that Khan definitely has feelings and Arthur is still hesitant and nervous

Khan offering to leave and turn himself off if it will make Arthur more comfortable

Arthur not sure how to answer and it's awkward

Khan leaves a few days of awkward silences later

Arthur panics and flips out and enlists Trillian and Ford and even Zaphod (who seems connected to both of them somehow, Arthur doesn't focus on it) to help find him

Finds Khan turned off and looking dead where he first found him

Arthur taking him home and cleaning him up and then turning him on

Khan has no memory at first so Arthur does everything he did before, taking care of him as subtly as a bull elephant in a china shop

Khan's memory begins to return

Hesitant relationship because it's still new and weird for them but dammit they'll make it work somehow
