Khardung La (”La” - meaning a mountain pass in Ladakhi language) allows crossing of the Ladakh mountain range at altitude of 5,359 meters above sea level. It used to be the highest motorable road in the world, but in recent years roads at higher elevations have been constructed in other parts of the Himalaya. However, the Khardung La remains the most used high elevation road with heavy traffic making its way across to explore the landscape beyond.
