Does anyone else think I-pin’s crushes on Fon and Hibari are weird? Like yeah in the source material it’s pretty harmless, but it just rubs me the wrong way, especially with how the series handles age gaps and how Hibari is constantly subjected to being fanservice. Here’s a redesign concept:

▲ I-pin does not have a crush on Hibari. She’s actually afraid of him. He looks like Fon, whom she respects very much as a mentor/guardian figure, and it scares her to see someone resembling him so angry and mean

▲ The Pinzu time bomb is a result of stress instead of infatuation. She’s protective of her friends and tries to confront Hibari because she’s heard how scary he is. Even Hibari isn’t going to fight a five year old so he just stares at her, which would be very intimidating to a little kid

▲ Listen. Listen. Big brother Hibari moments. I-pin eventually gets over her fear of him and they just coexist, but sometimes Hibari will see her in passing and help her order ice cream or get her kite from a tree. He still fervently denies being nice

*Bangs pots and pans together* KHR fans I am full of yearning, please interact. This is technically a redesign but Hibari already looks cool as hell there’s not much I can change. I did give him steel toed boots so this violent boy can fucking kick people. Redesign details below

This is entirely self indulgent because I love this show and I’d like to apply some of my own thoughts - He’s 18, not for any reason other than it’s ridiculous for these crime kids to be 14. He’s on the older side because he got held back. This fucker doesn’t go to class. Reborn tutors him on actual school subjects because ya boi is failing algebra - Gets hair clips to hold his hair up while he fights. Also he’d have eyeliner sometimes just cause his stageplay costume has very pretty eye makeup - Has issues because his parents basically disowned/neglected him. The only time he’d get attention or respect was when he hurt others, so he obsessively fights anyone he can. He stays in an apartment by himself

- I DO NOT ship him with Dino. In canon, Hibari is maybe 15-16 and Dino is 22. Even if I’m aging him up in the redesign, that’s not ok

That ask got me thinking about Haru now because (before the damn future arc) she was such a lovely and fun character. Here’s her stuff in the redesign

▲ Kyoko stays gentle and sweet because those are core parts of her initial personality. Haru? Haru is ride or die with the mafia. She’s all in and she’s ready to kill. She’s not suddenly mean at all, I just think she’s wild and commits 100% to everything. She would be ok with violence if she thinks the other person is awful enough to deserve it. I mean she tried to attack Tsuna with a hockey stick

▲ Haru has flames! @cloudhayato and I really liked the Lightning flame headcanons but we were more partial to Storm Haru because the thought of her relentlessly wailing on people with the disintegration aspect is so funny. So she mainly has Storm flames with a Lightning secondary

▲ Ok Lambo is five and he should not have been forced to fight at all. Like, that’s pretty fucked up in the series even if it’s anime and everyone is strong. In the redesign Haru temporarily takes his place as the lightning guardian because she’s like dude you can’t make this little child fight a full grown assassin man

▲ She technically wins the Lightning ring battle, but she got disqualified because she started fighting before the round started. Haru heard them talk about how Levi indiscriminately kills women and children and just saw red. He didn’t even get the chance get his stupid umbrellas out she just stole them and hit him over the head like a baseball bat

▲ Haru mentors Lambo in using his Lightning flame as he grows more capable of being the Lightning guardian. When Haru goes to the future, 15 year old Lambo has a really heartfelt talk with her, thanking her for getting him out of so many dangerous and potentially traumatizing situations. At the same time, she was really young herself, and he says he owes a lot to her for protecting him. He also calls her Haru nee-chan!

▲Haru and Gokudera argue nonstop on the most petty things. They’re both Storm users and they never fucking relent

Thinking about plague doctor themed Talbot and how he’d hand the guardians herbs like a grandpa giving out candy

Tsuna is not sure what to do with this handful of dill and dried parsley and when he asked, all Talbot did was heavily pat him on the head and leave

▲ In the redesign, Kyoko does have a flame! It’s Sun to match her brother because I find that really cute. She discovers it in the future out of sheer determination to help protect everyone.

▲ She’s definitely more aware of the mafia because jesus I hate canon. She has the right to know what’s happening around her, especially with her brother whom she cares so much about. 

▲ Ryohei is still very protective of her but to a less obnoxious extent. They sit down and have a talk about how, as sweet as his intentions are, it isn’t fair for Kyoko to sit there and do nothing when Ryohei is out there risking his life. It isn’t fair to keep her oblivious of how much pain he’s putting himself through when she cares for his safety just as much as he cares for hers. Then they agree that Ryohei won’t just be protecting Kyoko, they’ll fight to protect each other. 

▲ Like Ryohei, she’s a healer. I think she’d grow to be better at it since he’d focus a bit more on boxing. Kyoko meanwhile would do her best to nurture this ability that lets her help people.

▲ She doesn’t really have a weapon but she did take up ballet like she wanted to as a kid. Ryohei fights with his fists while Kyoko will fight with her legs. I can imagine Ryohei trying to help her take up kickboxing as self defense.

▲ Kyoko is not suddenly a “bamf” or violent. Being kind and sweet is an integral part of her character and femininity doesn’t automatically mean weakness. She’s like Tsuna, she hates fighting and would go out of her way to avoid it if possible, but if her loved ones are being threatened, she absolutely will not sit there and do nothing.

▲ Haru meanwhile will not fucking hesitate. She’s ride or die with the mafia and will throw chairs at people

A lot less than Kyoko since she was one of the characters who needed the most reworking in our opinion

▲ (Idk how close to canon this is) He actually did think the whole mafia thing was a game until Kokuyo happened, but he keeps up the bit to lighten the mood and ease tensions. Also just to fuck with Gokudera.

▲ He’s better friends with Hibari because strangely enough, Hibari seems to tolerate his presence a lot more than the other guardians in canon. They both care about the school’s pride, Yamamoto with the baseball team and Hibari in general. There’s just a few more interactions between them, an important one being when Yamamoto had to get closure on the baseball team.

▲ Small detail but being in the mafia actively improves his skills in baseball, improving his reaction time and strength. I think it was shown in canon that he was good at it but not the best quite yet.

▲ He keeps the sword bat and also the telescope from Reborn because it’s so fucking funny. He actually uses it more often and while the guardians kinda get used to it, everyone else is just wondering why the fuck there’s a telescope in his baseball bat sword.

To make better sense of Mukuro’s hair in the redesign, I made it so it’s kind of a bun

But then I have to imagine what his hair looks like while it’s down and I’m not ready for that

I think Genkishi’s main character flaw is that he’s unsexy. Maybe if Genkishi showed a little skin, Byakuran will pay attention to him
