this is part of a larger scene that i really love, but i think this captures the lighter part of kian and brielle's personalities really well, so here:
“Freedom is full of intricacies and contradictions,” Brielle said. “That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth fighting for. It’s not something controllable; it’s not even something tangible. But it’s worth it, in the end, don’t you think?” “Of course it is,” Kian said. “We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t worth fighting for.” “So stop being all sad and self-deprecating,” Brielle said, getting up and squeezing Kian’s shoulder. “The situation with Hades is stressful for all of us, but having him will be an immense help. Focus on the positives, yeah?” “Ah yes, something so easy to do,” Kian snarked. “Not all of us can be little miss optimism.” “You don’t always have to be a pessimist, you know,” Brielle chuckled. “You’re allowed to be happy and joke around.” “Easier said than done and you know it,” Kian said. “I don’t know how you do it.” “Denial,” Brielle said with a cheeky grin. “Ah, that explains a lot, actually,” Kian said. “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?” Brielle demanded. “Nothing.”
