Don’t be sad. Cassie sandsmark canon star shaped bellybutton piercing 👍
José luis Garcia-Lopez draws such a good Cassie, and the white belt actually makes this suit look cool
I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.
new icon so cutesit!
I LOVE IT SMMM Dan mora please draw Cassie more…. He’s always just doing some bullshit w her hair and it looks good every time

I cannot emphasize enough how exactly accurate this is to working in production

Reminder to all bitches: if they're coming to kill you, make them bring their own shovels. To me that's what voting is about, that's what living is about, that's what stubbornly persisting is about. For a lot of us world is full of people who want to bury you and to despair is to make it that much easier on them to get you in the ground. Fuck em! Don't just sit there. Don't just cooperate. Don't just wisely pontificate about how inevitable your doom is. If anyone is coming to Get You then damn well make them sweat for it.

anyway i think fans of unjustly overhated female characters and fans of unjustly overhated characters of colour should unionize

pro-tip: don't ever use the sentence "thousands of years" in your worldbuilding unless you really know what a thousand years is like
Quick cheat sheet:
The middle ages were one thousand years ago
I don't know if I need you to tell you this but Jesus was alive 2 thousand years ago during the Roman Empire
3 thousand years ago the Mediterranean and Middle East were recovering from the bronze age collapse. None of the philosophers of Western philosophy (or Eastern for that matter) were born yet
Earliest writing dates roughly to 5 thousand years ago.
Agriculture started roughly 10 thousand years ago
So yes, you can write whatever you like but if you're telling me that an individual dynasty has been ruling since 8000 years ago (HOLA JORGE) I have to wonder if they even had writing back then
To be fair you can find one guy like that in the comment section of most metal bands on youtube
[Image ID: Tumblr tags reading: #Made a character 10.000 years old and then had to sit there thinking 'oh god he's older than metallurgy' #Little old man rambling about how kids these days are all addicted to metal and in His day they only had rock /End ID]
Love character relationships that can only be described as "whatever the fuck these two have going on"
it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.
Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.
So, I wanted to combine the absolutely insane shenanigans fandom has yj getting into in space for months at a time with the fact that actually none of their guardians are as terrible/neglectful as they seem based on their absence from the narrative. (It's just that there are No Adults Allowed in the kids' book. They couldn't make them all orphans in the grand tradition of kids' fiction everywhere, so they just ignored the adults when convenient.)
Which means I need a way for them to spend months in space without anyone knowing, but also not have them absent long enough to ring any alarm bells.
Solution: take full advantage of the fact that time is Messed Up in comics. (7+ Christmases in 3-4 years anyone? One year time skip where not everyone ages a full year?) YJ can be in space for 8 months and it's only, let's go with two weeks, for their guardians.
Mind you: THEY STILL DON'T TELL ANYONE!
So you can get the scene years later where it's like:
JL: How do you know that alien race/language/solar system/interstellar legal code? Why are you citizens/married/ambassadors/boogiemen/deities on this random planet?
YJ: We spent 8 months hitchhiking. Stuff went down.
JL: ...there are no 8 month gaps unaccounted for. The longest we can come up with was two weeks, four if you're all really good at faking things.
YJ: Oh yeah, time's broken.
JL: Time's... broken...?
YJ: Time's broken.
*Me shaking Intelligent Systems* I know you know how to color characters in correctly!! You just did it last game and the game before that!! What happened!! Why is she grey!!!
