One Day
For my Damian Priest girlies (it’s me, I’m girlies) I’m gonna do a spinoff from his couple in the Jey Uso short that I did. Should be interesting….
Melanie
Straightening out my blouse as I stared in the mirror at my outfit one last time, I took a deep breath and said yet another prayer before exiting the restaurant bathroom. This year has been by far the worst of my entire existence. Life was going amazing for me; I had successfully launched my boutique/beauty bar, I was living my childhood dream of being a professional and licensed makeup artist, and I had my gorgeous fiancé by my side loving me down whenever I pleased. That was until it all changed. My store burnt down, I wasn’t insured at the time so I had no way to recover, I lost my contacts with a lot of my celebrity clients because they were kept in my book at the store, and my fiancé was cheating on me with some loony who ended up being the culprit for the fire! When I found out, I lost it! I whooped his ass so bad that a restraining order was issued against me, and since the house was in his name, I had no choice but to leave with my belongings. I can’t go to my parents because they warned me that this would happen and I’m too prideful to hear those words right now. So here I am, single, living out of my car, and fed up with life. I’m only surviving because I’m doing Uber trips and deliveries to afford my car and food, but hopefully today changes all of that.
My bestie for life, Moriah, gave me a heads up that they needed an extra makeup artist for WWE, and I immediately got my portfolio together and set up the call. “Ouuu, and once you get the job, we can hook you up with one of the wrestlers and y’all can do double dates with me and Jey!” She squealed excitedly as I shook my head. “Girl ain’t nobody thinking about hook ups right now. I gotta pay these bills and get my shit together. I don’t even wanna think about dealing with relationships for a long ass time.” “I definitely feel you, girl. Handle you first, but when you do take a good look at these men and decide it’s time, I wanna wear pink at the wedding.” She gushed causing me to scoff before laughing and shaking my head. “Yea whatever.”
Escaping my memories, I got into my mess of a car and searched through my documents and portfolio to make sure I had everything before driving over to the Performance Center for my meeting. Walking into the waiting area, my back tightened seeing I was the only black woman present, but I didn’t let that deter me as I took a seat. You got this, Mel, you got this. I coached in my brain as I waited to be called. “Melanie?” The secretary called right on time. Slightly raising my hand, I got up from my seat and walked into the room to be met with the execs and creative team.

“Well, Melanie, after careful consideration we’d like to offer you the position, how does that sound?” The CCO, Paul, asked smiling as I started tearing up. “Oh my God! Really?” “Really.” “Y-Yes! Oh my goodness! Yes, thank you so much!” I cried joyfully as he shook my hand and patted me on the back. “You’re very talented, it was a no brainer. Now, how would you like a tour of your new digs?” “I’d love that!” “Well right this way.” Leading me through the facility, I looked around in awe at how nice the place was. Smiling and sending small waves to wrestlers as I was lead on the tour, I was grounded by the sound of a smooth deep voice from nearby.
Turning, I met eyes with a beautifully carved, tall statue of a man covered in tattoos, hair pulled back into a slick ponytail. Trying not to be obvious, I subtly drank in his presence and it made my mouth dry. “And who do we have here?” He asked cockily in a thick New York accent that flooded my lower half with heat. “Good afternoon, Damian. This is Melanie. She’s our newest member to the makeup department team.” Nodding, he smiled extending his hand. “It’s very nice to meet you, Melanie. I’m Damian.” He greeted as I blushed deeply and nodded. “Nice to meet you too, Damian.”
*SIX MONTHS LATER*
Damian
“Ok, Priest, you got a couple minutes until your Money in the Bank segment. Get your final touches in while you can.” “Gotcha.” I confirmed staring at Mel as she finished a look for Trin. I’ve been intrigued by Melanie since she first got hired and I’ve been trying to make my intentions known, but she keeps shutting me down. I’m gonna get through though, one day. “Next?” Biting my lip, I quickly strutted over and plopped down on her chair while she was preoccupied with wiping down her equipment.
Turning around, she jumped almost dropping her makeup brushes, but I caught them and smiled in her direction as she held her heart. “Jeez! You can’t be sneaking up on people like that!” “So you’re telling me my big ass snuck up on you?” I chuckled as she nodded trying to hide her blush. “Whatever, Priest. What do you need?” She asked placing her hand on her hip. “You and me getting dinner later. How does that sound?” I asked throwing on the charm. “No. Now what do you need as far as makeup?” She asked again. “A quick, black liner for my Money in the Bank segment.” I conceded blandly causing her to smile. “Now was that so hard, sweetness? Coming right up.” She cheesed grabbing her liner pencil as I sulked.
*LATER THAT NIGHT*
Finishing up another successful broadcast for the week, I gathered my luggage and headed to the garage to place them in my car. “Aye, Priest! We hitting the bar in a couple hours, you rolling through?” One of the twins asked as their girls clung to them. “Uhhhh, yea. Who all coming?” “Us, the girls, Sheamus, Bayley, Punk, I think Liv and them coming too.” “Yea, bet bet. Lemme uh go change real quick.” “Aii, Uce, just text us.” “Ok, man.” Turning back to my car, I spotted her walking to her car. “Aye, Mel, wait up!” I called as she kept her stride not looking up. Trying to catch up to her, I finally tapped her shoulder as she was opening her door. Startled, she didn’t have time to react as a bunch of clothes and trash fell from her passenger seat. “Oh shit, my b-“ “Dammit, Damian! Will you just leave me alone?!” She groaned in tears as she hurriedly piled her belongings back inside and got in speeding away. Watching her car in the distance, my stomach twisted in agony realizing that we had more in common than I could’ve imagined.
*NEXT FRIDAY*
Melanie
Finishing up with Jade’s makeup for her segment, I asked my makeup supervisor if I was good to leave for the day before packing my things. Ever since that night, I’ve been avoiding Damian like the plague. I don’t want to see the look of pity and charity written on his face as he talks to me, so I’ve doing my best to steer clear. Hustling my way through the building, I was almost out of there when I turned the corner and bumped into something heavy, knocking myself to the ground.
“Oh shit. Are you okay?” Knowing that voice anywhere, I shrugged his hand away as I got up on my own and straightened my clothes. “Still avoiding me, huh?” “Look, Damian, I-“ “Melanie, you don’t have to apologize. I really wanted to talk to you, an-“ “No. Uh uh. Please, please, don’t do that.” “Do what?” “Damian, you know what! I don’t need your charity, just please stop. I’ll stay out of your way, and you can stay out of mine.” “Dios mío! Melanie, that’s not-“ “No! I don’t wanna hear it. You rich types love to shower pity on people when you find out their situation isn’t the best, and I’d rather die of shame than hear that.” I shushed him moving to walk away when he grabbed me by my waist and threw me over his shoulder. Kicking and screaming for him to put me down, he grabbed my bags and kicked open a vacant door before walking in and locking it behind him. Setting me down I was hit with a musty, sour smell, and I immediately knew we had to be in a mop closet when he hit the lights confirming my suspicions.
“Have you lost your entire fucking mind, you creep?!” “No, but if you keep interrupting me, I will!” He fussed back as I rolled my eyes. “Damian, move! I’m not tryna hear that shit.” “No, you gone sit here and you gone listen! ¡Esa chica loca está a punto de hacerme colapsar!” He ranted in Spanish shutting me up as the beautiful language rolled off his sharp tongue. “Goddammit, do you know how frustrating you are sometimes?!” He groaned before collecting himself and taking some deep breaths. Reaching into his back pocket, he pulled out his wallet, and I immediately started shaking my head in defiance when he shot me a glare. Opening the wallet, he stared for a moment at whatever the contents were before looking up at me. “I don’t look at you as charity, Mel, and I never will because that was me once upon a time.” He confessed as he slid an object in my hand, gently kissed my forehead, and left the closet. Turning it over in my hand, I saw it was a couple of pictures of him, but one inscription caught my eye.
