Okay so I looked up kibbutz and honestly it seems very close to the kinds of things I personally like and would want to see. Sadly I think you're right that way too many people would see something like that and hate it because it's Jewish...

But regardless thanks for mentioning Kibbutz because that's actually super cool to learn about!

Of course Kibbutzim (plural) sound fantastic. If I lived in Israel I would make sure to spend at least some years of my life living on one, even if they aren't the same as they were in their earlier days in terms of now being mostly privatized. My grandmother, having survived the Holocaust now with no family or belongings to speak of, was sent as a refugee to Mandatory Palestine at age 14, where she lived on a Kibbutz picking grapefruits. She spoke very highly of the experience, seems like it was a true little Utopia in many ways. And it took care of my orphaned grandmother and made sure she had family, community, and all her needs met. In return – picking grapefruits.

Here's the thing about the Kibbutz.

It's the only time communism has ever been done "properly".

The secret lies in the scale and lack of control.

The scale is too small for an institution of violent state control to develop.

And just as you freely joined the Kibbutz, if you aren't a fan, then so too can you freely leave the Kibbutz at any time.

However, today most Kibbutzim are partially or entirely privatized.

Even done "properly", people complain about the communism. It turns out the people who do more specialized work like doctors or those who make the place run, eventually want more pay than that given to those who pick fruits and milk cows. It turns out that people don't want to be on a wait list to use one of the Kitbbutz's cars. They want their own car to use whenever they want. Because the Kibbutz is not controlling and is democratic, it has no way to enforce The Communism when the majority votes to go the way of The Capitalism. And so now Kibbutzim are essentially communist in "vibe" only. Which maybe isn't a bad thing.

You are correct in that self-identifying Communists today refuse to recognize that Jewish Zionist Communists, aka the Labour Zionism movement, essentially did the bulk of Israel's early state-building both before and after the Declaration of Independence. Even before the British Mandate, in the late 1800s, Zionists were buying up unused land from the Ottoman Empire and spinning up Kibbutzim on this land.

You are correct that they reject the Kibbutz as a model of Communism, not only because it was/is a Jewish and Zionist institution, but also because the lack of absolute power and control involved makes this an unacceptable model for your average Communist.

The reason I bring up the Kibbutz in response to your question is to note that in general for self-identifying, non-Jewish Communists, it actually isn't really about the economics of Communism at all.

It's about the authoritarianism and the consolidation of power. It's about in-groups and out-groups.

"The Purpose Of A System Is What It Does."

Communism's purpose, at least when applied to a State Level and not something on the scale of a Kibbutz, is to consolidate power for the ruling class and create authoritarian, totalitarian States. This is true whether one freely admits to being pro-authoritarian or not – the system Communists believe in leads to violent oligarchal authoritarianism every time a country tries it out. Indeed, this is the only way to enforce Communism at the state-level. "A dictatorship of the Proletariat", except that once a Prole becomes a dictator, they cease to be a Prole and are instead now...dictators, believe it or not. Dictators do not relinquish power freely. This means eliminating Democracy, because as demonstrated by the Kibbutzim, eventually even done in a utopian and nonviolent way, people will get restless under Communism and will eventually vote for Capitalism. If you're a Communist leader, it is your perogative to stop this possibility at all costs.

Today [Friday, December 26, 2025] Aviv Maor was murdered in a stabbing and car ramming terror attack in Northern Israel by a Palestinian Arab terrorist from northern Samaria/Shomron, an area in the "west bank"

Maor was a 19 years old Jewish Israeli girl from Kibbutz Ein Harod. She and her friend were riding a vehicle near the kibbutz when the terrorist rammed into them, they both got out after the crash and tried to escape in different directions, the terrorist ran after Aviv and stabbed her to death

Aviv Maor's father said: “He ran into them while they were in a kibbutz vehicle. They got out and ran. He chased her and murdered her. A terrorist took our daughter and killed her.”

Aviv Maor, may she rest in peace, helped stray/abandoned kittens+cats, she fostered them until she found adoptive forever homes for them.. May her memory be a blessing!!!!
