Update 12: When people move from the heart, things get done. · Lower 9th Ward Village Community Center

Thank you all so much for your support. Over the past few days, we have doubled the number of backers. Just yesterday alone we added 67 backers. Thank you! We also wanted to take this time to thank one of our current partners, Airlift - an innovative arts organization. Through the end of May, New Orleans Airlift will be completing our first new musical house of 2014 in the Lower 9th Ward Village. The Can You Hear Me? house, by New Orleans artist Dawn Dedeaux, is a structure that has invented musical instruments embedded into the floors, walls and ceilings. Utilizing tin cans as a building material, the house honors the humble traditions of tin can telephones and blues music. The Can You Hear Me? house is inspired by the people and places of the Lower 9th Ward.

The house is intended to be an amplifier for the Lower 9th Ward's ongoing struggle to have their voices heard nine years after the storm. Building in the Lower 9th Ward Village has allowed us to invite after school groups from All Souls Church to Make Music NOLA down to explore the acoustical possibilities of tin cans but also to sing and record their stories which will echo from the tin cans.

The Lower 9th Ward Village has become an essential place for Airlift to work with the Lower 9th Ward community, offering opportunities for children to learn and community members to simply walk in and check it out. It is so important to have a shared space for people to learn together, work together and dream together.
