Werewolf Tales

Hiro talked about the time Takuya called him at around 1 AM when he was already asleep, inviting him to play Werewolf. Hiro was like, "Huh?!" Apparently, the Oral members played it during an IG live, but Takuya wanted to play some more even after the live ended. Hiro was like, “Okay okay fine,” so he got up from bed and joined. It was his first time playing it, but he found it surprisingly fun and exciting. 

In one round of the game, everyone suspected Hiro was the werewolf even if he said he was just a villager, so they killed him, but apparently the app didn't assign a werewolf for that round at all. He was so mad that he said that the next time he plays with Takuya, he'll kill him in seconds.

Kid'z said it sounded fun and suggested MFS play it together as well. Hiro was like, “The members will probably suck at this game,” to which Kid'z replied, “Yeah, but I think Teru would do great.” Hiro quipped, “Ah yeah he'd be good at it, he literally looks like a werewolf already.”

Hi, sorry to bother you.. can you tell me some news of MFS? About members or.. anything else? I am a fan of MFS, but i know them from a little time.

Welcome to the fandom! ^^

I’ll just talk about the members for a little while, ok?

All pictures used (except Kid’z’s) are from here.

First, the youngest band member: Hiro, the singer.

His full name is Hiroki Moriuchi. He comes from a famous family. Both his parents are famous enka singers, and his brother Taka is the singer of the band ONE OK ROCK. Because of his famous family, Hiroki has been in the shadow of his family. By singing in MY FIRST STORY, he is trying to show the world that he is Hiroki from MY FIRST STORY, and not just “the son of…” or “the little brother of….”.

Next, Teru, one of the guitarists.

His full name is Teruki Nishiziwa. He’s seems to be a pretty outgoing guy. I’m not sure what else I can really say about him.XD

Next, Nob, the bassist!

His full name is Nobuaki Katou. This might be personal opinion, but I think he’s a very good bass player. He’s been the victim of numerous pranks that have been filmed by the band, and released on DVD. The DVDs are called Itsuwari NOBROSE, and so far three have been released.

Then, there is the drummer, Kid’z.

His real name is Shohei Sasaki, but everyone uses his stage name Kid’z. He is the only member of the band who hasn’t been a member since the beginning. In March 2016, it was announced that the previous drummer Masack would be leaving the band, and that Kid’z would take his place. At first it seems he intended to keep a low profile so fans would not feel like he was ‘replacing’ Masack, but fans turned out to be very welcoming and soon he showed his outgoing side. ^^ 

Then, the last member: Sho, the guitarist.

His full name is Sho Tsuchiya. He is currently on hiatus. That means that he is still a band member, but he is currently not active in the band: he doesn’t do concerts or albums with MY FIRST STORY right now. Later, he will return to the band as an active member again. Before he went on hiatus, he seemed to be sort of the leader of MY FIRST STORY. If I understand correctly, he also did most of the songwriting for the band. Hiro looks up to Sho quite a lot. ^^ 

This is what I can tell you about the members. I can always tell you more about the band, but now that you know the members, it should be easier to find information on the band yourself. ^^ I highly recommend japanessie’s blog, who has a lot of posts about MFS and also knows some Japanese, so she sometimes translates things too.

Thoughts【Part 1】 Buat yg ngaku fans tp gatau apa apa tentang MFS mending back off deh, kalo ujung ujungnya kalian malah ngerendahin atau ngebandingin mereka sm band lain. What the heck?! Eh kutil, setiap band pasti punya ciri masing masing. Jadi gaada guna kalo lu ngebanding bandingin mereka sm band lain. Atau malah kalian suka sm MFS cuma karena kasian sm Hiro atau cuma karena tau Hiro adiknya "dia"? Gitu? HAHAHA For example deh, gue gatau apa apa soal band "dia" dan gue gapernah komen apa apa soal bandnya atau pun personal life nya. Sekarang kalo gue balik komen tentang band "dia" pasti banyak yg ga bakal terima sama statement gue. Soalnya mulut gue tajem, tapi at least gue ga muna. Gini deh, emang lu pada blm puas nyakitin Hiro sm MFS dari 5 tahun lalu sampe sekarang? Mereka ngebawa beban itu selama 5 tahun atau mungkin lebih. Lu pikir gampang? Pasti berat lah bego. Gue yakin lu yg pada cuma punya mulut gede yg ngomong macem macem soal MFS juga gabakal kuat di judge sehari sm ribuan orang. Paling juga ga nyampe sehari udh pada mewek terus ngedown. Lu semua pasti mikirnya "Oh itu anak cuma sirik", "Tu anak pasti gasuka/benci sama band kakaknya". HAHAHA SOTIL LU NYED. Gue ga benci, sama sekali ga benci. Jujur gue juga sering dengerin lagu mereka. Hampir setiap hari gue dengerin karena emang masuk di playlist gue. Buat kalian yg katanya fans mereka dari dulu dan tau segalanya soal mereka. Kenapa gue perhatiin kebanyakan malah pada gasuka sama mereka sekarang? Gaada yg salah sama lagu lagu di album baru mereka. When people judge them by calling them "POP" based on perubahan musik dan beberapa poin di album barunya, gue disini malah suka sama album barunya dan gue pikir mereka bener bener keren. Kenapa? Mereka berhasil wujudin beberapa mimpi mereka yg akhirnya bikin semua orang all over the world kenal sama mereka. Kalian yg klaim diri jadi fans harusnya bangga dong sama kesuksesan mereka. Tapi yg gue heran, banyak komen yg gue liat malah ngejudge mereka karena mereka berubah. Ada juga yg ngejudge orang karena orang itu deket atau foto hug/cipika cipiki sama band member. Hellooooo they're in America now. Hal hal kayak gitu udah biasa disana kalo sama temen. So just get used to it. Gausah lebay. Boleh lebay tapi cukup sama temen aja. Gausah langsung ke orang yg bersangkutan. Norak. Back to MFS, gue cuma minta satu aja. Ngotak dikit kek gitu kalo mau ngomong atau bikin statement buat public post. Soalnya gini loh, bukannya apa apa. Gue cuma kasian sm fans yg baru masuk dunia fandom MFS trs nemu postingan yg ga bener. Cuma bikin rusak fandom aja kan? Bikin postingan ini itu soal MFS biar dapet banyak followers sama likes. Ga guna lu. Or maybe gini, mungkin lu ga bermaksud buat ngerendahin MFS ataupun Hiro, tapi, persepsi setiap orang pasti beda beda kan? Karena ga setiap orang bisa ngerti maksud dibalik postingan lu sekalipun lu pake bahasa yg bagus. Jadi intinya ya gausah sok tau segalanya kalo faktanya emang lu gatau apa apa soal MFS. Gausah sakit hati sm omongan gue. Dari awal udah dibilangin. Kalo gatau apa apa mending gausah komen. P.s: sorry kalo kata kata gue agak kasar. what do you think of Rookie cover on youtube, is he actually Hiro?

Well, it’s a no-brainer isn’t it 😃? Hiro has such a distinctive voice that can still retain its unique character even through vocal effects which even his famous elder brother can’t*. This one doesn’t have any vocal effect the way the defunct(?) VOICE project in 2015 did. Even that one couldn't hide Hiro as one of the singers. Let alone a project like Rookie.

* I mean, as great a singer Taka is, his voice loses its character and turns ordinary once it goes through a vocal effect whereas Hiro would still sound unmistakably like Hiro, with or without effects.

Anyway, I am actually more interested in other fans’speculation over the guy tinkling on the digital piano while lip-syncing the voice. Many fans picked Kid’z and a smaller group picked Sho. Ok, both men have high cheekbones and hair texture that can be flicked up like the man in the video. For me, Sho is out as his face shape is too oval to be this mysterious man, who has a rounder face. Sho’s aquiline nose shape also doesn’t match with this man’s. Personally I lean more towards Kid’z as he can actually play the piano 🤔. In fact, it’s his first instrument which he started to learn at age 3, before the drums!

But bear in mind though that MFS has the access to so many pianists/keyboardist/singers/sessionists that this can still be someone else instead of Kid’z.

I have written so many entries on Kid’z, even I can’t be fully sure where I mentioned it 😂. If my memory serves me right, he did list out the instruments in a reply in an old birthday Q&A in the Storyteller Fan Club.

Anyway, Kid'z is a one-man band. The boy wonder that he is! He plays all the following instruments:

1. Piano (his first instrument as told in this interview)

2. Drums / Percussions

3. Guitar 

There's a short video on one of the blog entries on Storyteller FC where he played ALONE riffs with Teru on drums.

4. Bass

There’s an actual photo of him with a bass in the rehearsal studio in his LOTH days but I couldn’t find it in my collection, so I put these instead. These are old photos from his students days when he goofed around with his then bandmate Taro’s bass.

5. He also sings

He can literally be his own one-man band 😉. All he needs to do is learn all the studio programming and arranging like Sho and he’s good to go 💪💪💪!

I was suffering from tendonitis myself while on tour, so I understand why Hiro didn't tell us about his throat

- This was Kid'z-kun's first tour with MFS, so I would assume that your relationship with the members has changed greatly.

Kid'z: I was with them more than I was with my family. We worked under the same schedule every day, so even if I wanted to be alone, I was with everyone. On that note, even if I wanted to be with someone else today, I'm with them. I feel like I got to see everything, both the good and the bad. To begin with, I'm definitely the farthest away from the members in terms of sense of distance, right? There are a lot of things I don't know about the past, but I'd like to think I've really gotten to know the members well this time around.

- Some time during the tour, Hiro-kun told you, "You're really looking after me, huh".

Kid'z: He did. Because I was really worried about him... Especially since Hiro is the vocalist, you'd think he'd have trouble with his throat and mental health, right? So whenever he seemed just a little down in the dumps, I would ask him, "What's wrong?" Even if he was simply concentrating, I'd still get worried. I'd get antsy if things felt somewhat off. That kind of thing stands out to me (laughs). At this point though, I just let them go about their lives freely.

- Did anything happen this time that helped you grow as a drummer?

Kid'z: I became more conscious about maintaining good health and taking care of my body. But I've been playing the drums for a long time now, so my love for the craft hasn't changed. Actually, I had tendonitis in the middle of the tour and I became unable to hold anything. My drumsticks, a car handle, not even a cup. It even hurt to hold a doorknob. Right before the show at the wing of the stage, I held my drumsticks and wrapped tape around my hands to prevent them from coming off, then I took them out at the end of the last song. I only used a little tape when the members were around.

- Which part of the tour was this?

Kid'z: Yokohama was tough. A sharp pain would shoot through every time I hit the drums, so if I didn't take painkillers I would've been unable to play. I thought to myself, will I end up not being able to tour around all 47 prefectures?

- So that happened, huh. That really caught me off guard just now...

Kid'z: Yep. I didn't tell anyone. I'm completely fine now, though. It got better a few days before Budokan, I think. I was playing without any tape in the end.

- Hiro-kun kept mum about his throat, too.

Kid'z: Ah, I also only learned about that from watching the film. I was like, "Eh!?" I thought he was kidding, but it's true. I knew something wasn't right, but as you would expect, he didn't want to cause any unnecessary worry. It could've possibly triggered all sorts of things to go wrong after all. That's why I only told my manager and no one else that I was in a little bit of pain. But the truth is, it wasn't just a little bit of pain, it was enough to make me break out in a cold sweat (laughs).

- How was your first time playing at Budokan?

Kid'z: I had never really gotten nervous before a show up until then. I was all, "Alright, let's do this!" but when I looked down at my hands, they were seriously trembling. I don't know if I was nervous or just excited, but I felt better once I started playing the first song. The view from the 360° stage was amazing. I would typically throw my used drumsticks to the ground under normal circumstances, but because I could also be seen from behind on that day, I was playing all the while making sure that I didn't make too much of a mess (laughs).

- What is "MY FIRST STORY" to you?

Kid'z: A place I come home to

Hiro was drinking the night before Zephyren’s 2020 Summer Collection photoshoot, lasting until 12 noon the next day. Hiro got home around 1 PM and was just about to sleep when Luka came over. Hiro was all, "Wtf are you doing here?" and Luka went, "You have a photoshoot today."

Kid'z asked where Hiro was after his shoot (he was already modelling at around noon) and when he found out Hiro was still in the shower, he just chatted with Nobuya from ROTTENGRAFFTY then went home. Nobuya was like, "When's Hiro coming? It's getting late!"

Only Hiro can come to a photoshoot piss drunk and still work it.

Hiro: *reads question* Who do you think will be the first member to get married?

Kid’z: Nob, right?

Hiro: Eh, I don’t know about that. I don’t think it’s Nob.

Kid’z: Who do you think it is then? Hmm, I don’t really know.

Hiro: I think it’s Guitar-kun.

Kid’z: Teru? Oteru?

Hiro: Oteru-chan.

Kid’z: Ah, but I can imagine him doing it all of a sudden without really knowing what he’s getting himself into. 

Hiro: Yep, because he’s unpredictable.

Kid’z: True, he’s the hardest to read.

Hiro: You never know what he’s thinking, so he might get married out of nowhere to some stranger.

Kid’z: Well, damn. He might just get married to someone who also likes fishing and camping.
