The Opa-locka Community Development Corporation #olcdc has been working to revitalize one of the country's dangerous and crime-plagued cities since the 1980's. Originally conceived by aviation pioneer, Glenn Curtiss, as an urban oasis, 10miles north of Miami, designed in the Moorish Revival style, Opa-locka suffered through the 1920's real-estate bubble and disinvestment. In the 1980's, it became notorious for drug-trafficking and violent crime. OLCDC has spearheaded revitalization efforts through the introduction of arts and culture as a way to transform the neighborhood into a desirable place to love, work, create and play.
