After my visit to see Emma Kunz @serpentineuk I really wanted to tell my students about her artwork and see if they could make their own versions. All in all it was very successful today. They made their own pendants from clay and tried out asking it questions to create artwork. We are looking at David Hockney this week. He’s such a wonderful and interesting artist. Two of the students wanted to do their initial sketch from observation like he does so say on the step of my studio. I have been working this term on encouraging the children to really look at their subjects and try to draw only what they see. That doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be completely accurate, it just means to draw what interests them and what feels right. Hockney does the same, hence why his landscape paintings are so bright and colourful.
