He knows from the moment he agrees to take the kid on the mission that it’s a bad idea. Peter had a Spidey sense, and Tony had a dad sense. Developed it during a time when everything seemed lost, and it was just him and Pepper and their beautiful baby girl Morgan.

Tony couldn’t predict dangers before they happened. Couldn’t stop a bullet in midair, folding fingers around it and stopping it with enhanced strength. But he knew how to see the tiredness under a kid's eyes and see how his shoulders had slumped as his energy had slowly drained. It should have been a warning sign of what was to come, but he’d missed it. And now, Peter was dying all over again.

Tree Well

A tree well (or spruce trap) is the area beneath a tree's branches that does not accumulate as much snow as the surrounding area. It's dangerous to anyone walking, stepping, or falling onto it, as the snow is looser and will not hold a person's weight.

They form due to the tree's branches impeding snow from gathering as tightly as it does ground that isn't covered by branches. It leaves a void of loosely-packed snow as a consequence.

People trapped in a tree well cannot rescue themselves and consequently rely on a rescue team. The fall itself, if from high enough or hitting a vital spot, can injure or even kill. If the fall is fatal, it is called a non avalanche-related snow immersion death (NARSID).

10% Left

"10% left" refers to any situation in which something vital is running out. A phone's battery when one is stranded and needs to call for help, an oxygen tank during an underwater expedition, a backup battery for someone's life support...

For this prompt, your characters will be in a dire situation and rely on some external element. Said element, however, won't last long. It only has 10% left (could be more or less too; it doesn't have to be literally 10%).

Personality Rewritten

Personality is the combination of traits, responses, cognitive and emotional patterns that form a person's self. It's the collection of every little thing that makes a person who they are, and how they've adjusted to life. It can be affected and impacted by events, morphed and changed throughout a lifetime.

In this prompt, your chosen character may physically survive, but their personality will not. From a sci-fi rewrite of someone's brain, to possession, to a curse or any other method the author deems fit, your chosen character's personality will be replaced with something else, or someone else's.

Naturally, you're free to physically kill them as well, given the nature of this challenge. However, the main part and the principle of this prompt is to have the person your character is die through their personality being replaced. Think of it as rewritting a hard drive, but with the collection of traits that make your character the person they are.

Not The Dog

"Not the dog" refers to the common media trope of dogs/other pets being harmed/killed, and their injuries/death being more painful than any human characters'. Animals, especially pets, are small and vulnerable, and elicit sympathy in many people. The notion of an animal being hurt is comprehensibly upsetting.

For this prompt, it's time to wrench the hearts of your readers with the death of not a character, but rather a fuzzy companion.

Of course, you are more than welcome to kill your character as well. So far as their death is linked to that of the animal (dying in the same accident, sacrificing themselves for one another, going on a violent revenge rampant after the death of a pet…), everything is fair game.

"This phone call, uhm… it's my note"

This prompt refers to someone, character A, who is using character B's voice mail to leave their suicide note. Instead of writing it in a traditional sense, with pen and paper, as an email, or in any other written medium, the dying character has chosen to leave a voice mail in lieu of a suicide note. It originates from this scene of Sherlock.

The reason for this, as always, is up to the author.
