Just in case anon or you havent read it I massively recommend it because it also shows the gritty reality of a mute post!torture griff and the tension between him, guts, casca and the whole band basically as they set off to elfheim to find him a cure! Its dope, possibly on hiatus now but with plenty chaps already out to enjoy and suffer over :)
I actually haven’t read this one yet because I’ve been hoping it would be finished and I could read it all at once eventually lol, but ty for the rec! I’ll tag this anon too since it’s also a response to them.
fic is here

But if Griffith could communicate his anger, his sadness, his self-loathing, the trauma of the torture that would’ve helped SO MUCH. And he could’ve bulked up a bit with a good liquid diet! There’s still hope, he went through actual hell but im gonna be the immovable optimist here.
Yeah like... realistically I’m no expert in the challenges someone would face without a tongue or working wrist and ankle tendons in medieval europe, but I’m sure it would be hellish in many ways. But I also think that like, with accomodations and supportive people around and a major adjustment to Griffith’s life philosophy, which he already got part of the way through in the torture chamber, he could still be happy. I’m with you on the optimism.
In fact I think it’s vital to really sell Griffith’s breakdown when he overhears Casca telling Guts to leave. His dream was over but his life wasn’t until he made the sacrifice.
