It's a pretty deliberately sexy design lol so it makes sense. And lbr I guarantee you no straight guy has ever felt guilty over finding sexy evil women hot so you shouldn't feel guilty either.

saw a neighbor and she knew of my mom dying and said she was so sorry, nd i responded with yeah it's awful but at least i got a new apartment! and she just looked at me and said yknow, you don't have to justify and extenuate her death. you can just say it's horrible. and i've thought about that every single hour since. cause she's right, it's not justifiable no matter what kind of 'good things' happen to me now, nd i agree 100% abt wellwishing being patronizing af! let me be sad and down dammit!

dude i'm so so sorry about your mum :(( i know there's no words for it and nothing at all anyone can say, but you guys are in my heart and thoughts. it's weird how when people die their presence still feels so strong, it's just unbearably silent at the same time. but they're still so much a part of you. i hope you have a good support system around you n that you're just doing what you can to take care of yourself. making it through one day at a time is all you can ask of yourself :(( but YEAH omg i want to marry your neighbour for saying that, she's so right.....there is no good that could come from losing my sister that would justify it. not even a picture perfect reunion in some picture perfect heaven would heal the loss of her future, her whole life. it's something that happened to HER, you know? and it's never going to be fair or inspirational. that's why i hate when people tell me to make her proud, make the most of my life, etc. it's just shit and it will always be shit. there's no getting around that, you know? also ugh omg i know like.....i totally understand why well wishing is just human instinct and i never get offended by it, i try to take it on board, but it always pisses something off in the back of my mind. like i'm in the most pain i've ever been in in my life, over something that will never ever be fixed, and you're sitting there talking about god or a plan or whatever else......just read the room, you know? ooooh while im hardly an expert on ryo expies it is something ive enjoyed thinking about.

the way i understand it is that while ryo is the true OG, he inspired kaworu (evangelion) who in turn has a million expies himself. but since kawo is very very different from ryo himself, charas inspired by these will be super different.

i'll list some well known ones + ones i personally think might be inspired too! definitely can't vouch for all of them, tho, bc i haven't engaged with most of this media! also i realise this doesn't answer anyone's question rlly. but oh well neat list maybe. also the charas are very across the spectrum and different from e/o but seem to share some core themes/traits

Oooh those are both great tragic ideas! I love the idea of Guts intending it as a punishment but then regretting it bc he still loves Griff too much to see him suffer like that. And emotionless Guts with emotions-again Griff would be legit a little disturbing, which is awesome lol. It'd be an interesting role reversal.

this is coming out harsh but gtsca is a big ship and ppl really read into it but in my eyes miura wrote them just as doomed from the start as griffguts yet only one ship is considered ‘canon’ of the two and I guess I’m just curious what people see that I dont see?? Ofc I completely agree that Guts and Casca don’t make sense as a romantic end game ship and they read as doomed from the start to me too. Like I’d consider it a tragedy for Casca if they got together again lol.

Buuuuut that said they are The Het Ship, yk? I have seen so many terrible nonsensical misogynist het ships go canon in my life that like, the fact that it’s terrible and Miura clearly knows that it’s terrible in at least some ways only feels like a minor relief lol, like in my experience that is not necessarily, or even likely to be, a deathknell for a het ship.

I definitely think Miura is a good enough writer that I could see him doing something different and never putting Guts and Casca back together. But he’s also flawed enough that I could pretty easily see the opposite, and it’s not like I haven’t been burned before while reading Berserk lol.

And Miura has been... not pandering to fans of the ship exactly, but definitely acknowledging them and baiting them recently - like when Danann put Casca in a romantic dress and sent her out to meet Guts. That wouldn’t work if we’re all just meant to assume the ship is dead on the water. Neither would all the Moon Baby happy family motherly Casca hopeful bullshit lol, or Casca cooing at Guts and making him snap out of his rage a couple of times, etc. I still think it’s going to end in tragedy, but the way Miura’s writing the story, he knows that a big chunk of Berserk fans want Guts and Casca to live happily ever after and he’s writing at least partly with their expectations in mind.

tl;dr gtsca sucks and if they lived happily ever after - or even if they wanted to live happily ever after but were tragically doomed not to by outside forces - it would be bad writing, but sadly it would hardly be the first time a story I liked crammed in terrible badly written het romance. So it’s not really anything specific in Berserk itself that has me cautious, just past experience and me being cynical.

I’m with you on the optimism.

In fact I think it’s vital to really sell Griffith’s breakdown when he overhears Casca telling Guts to leave. His dream was over but his life wasn’t until he made the sacrifice.

i looove how your blog is so active lately! i needed some time to collect myself after that last essay but i've got more ramblings coming i'll be sure to tag you in. also I saw someone mention starting a groupchat but let's be real, if you go to the griffguts tag on here you're already surrounded by all the likeminded people in the berserk fandom lmao, you can't get much closer to the source than that! Your blog is pretty much the ship HQ, I'd suggest people just stay here and interact that way!

lol ty I’m glad you’re having fun, it’s been nice to get so many asks and stuff recently. and yeah I guess the griffguts tag at least is pretty chill afaik so that’s always a good option.

And aw it’s awesome that a lot of people feel like they can come here to share their thoughts and chat about Berserk and I totally encourage that, but tbf my blog probably isn’t a great hub for fandom discussion since I tend to keep this blog pretty centred around my own opinions and interests rather than facilitating discussion in general. People should have a place to chat where they don’t have to go through me “well actually here’s what I think”ing them first lol.

But yk maybe something like a fuckyeahgriffguts blog to signal boost all meta and fanworks and stuff would be a good addition to the fandom.
