An open letter to Jinx Quickfoot

I won’t bury the lede--it’s about Kill the Cat, @jinxquickfoot​

You’ll notice from my Spotify account that I don’t have tons of leisure time to listen to what I want when I want. That’s essentially why I don’t really listen to podcasts--ain’t nobody got time for screening the good ones.

Having read your fics, I knew that at least I wouldn’t be bored, and honestly you’ve probably spent so much time writing and then handing them over to free, merely checking out your podcast felt like the least I could do.

I started with B99, because I wanted to start with something familiar to see if I could even “trust” your judgment, and was treated to 25 minutes of totally fun, nonstop insights. You guys pointed out and outlined things I had seen and recognized, but didn’t have a framework for properly identifying, if that makes sense.

My background is in literature, and a lot of what you discuss is parallel--so things like cinematic language just sort of fit with what I knew about storytelling, while being totally new to me. It just felt like effortlessly broadening my horizons, getting smarter while having fun (and washing dishes).

For a couple of marvelous weeks it was my go-to for my Friday morning chores (alone at home!), until one awful Friday when I realized I had been rash by listening to two-at-a-time, while you only publish once a month. I have since learned my lesson, and pace myself accordingly.

Anyway, thank you for plugging it at the end of your fics. I wouldn’t have found it otherwise (because, as I said, ain’t nobody got time for that), but I’m very happy that I did. It’s quality content independent of your writing, but I can see that it stems from the same nuanced understanding of text and narrative.

[aside: I debated how to do this, which is part of the reason it took me two months to give feedback. I finally decided to do it like this because 1) I didn’t know where I can leave a public review, 2) it’s easier to read a formatted post than a private “ask” text-block, and 3) although I have absolutely zero audience, sometimes people see things, and I hope people see this.]
