You’d said no around a thousand times before your friends managed to convince you to go out that night. You had promised you would complain all the time, and they had to buy your drinks, but not even that made them desist from the idea of taking you with them.
It had been long enough, long enough of your whining and crying every time you remembered how you’d been dumped by your last boyfriend out of nowhere, and how he’d gotten a new girlfriend about five days after your breakup. It was time you got back out there, flirt a little maybe and just forget about how broken your heart had been.
You finished your drink with a gulp, taking a breath so deep it made your chest hurt. “Now what?” you questioned, relaxing your gritted jaw when a pang crept up to your ear. It was just Yuri and you, because the rest of them decided to be late, per usual.
“Oh come on, this is fun, y/n!” Yuri cheered, rubbing your back softly “Just try to relax, plus, I heard there’s going to be a performance tonight, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!”
With a huff, you looked at the bartender, who smiled at you trying his best not to shake his head as he mixed a new drink for you. You barely had time to take it from his hand before Yuri pulled you towards the small stage in the middle of the pub, the lights of the place dimming into a blue color. To your surprise, instead of the hipster band you’d been expecting since Yuri mentioned the performance, a single man came out on the stage, squinting at the blue light, he grabbed the microphone in the middle, before looking back as a sign for the music to start. His voice had a very special color, husky and enticing, your eyes were soon glued to him, following his every move, from the way his fingers wrapped around the microphone and its stand, to the way his hips swayed every few seconds to the rhythm of his songs.
“I bet you don’t regret saying yes right now” Yuri smirked, nudging you softly.
With heat crawling up to your cheeks, you took another sip of your drink “H–he’s good, that’s all” with the glass still on your lips, you looked up at the singer again, whose gaze was already on you, a smirk adorning his features as he approached the ending of the song. The guy sang another couple songs, making eye-contact with you every now and then, and making Yuri squeal lowly, pulling at your arm as you hissed at her to stop. Once the performance finished, you rushed back to the bar where the rest of your friends were waiting for you, Yuri being quick to tell them how you were supposedly flirting with the singer.
“It wasn’t flirt– shut up Yuri!” you pinched her arm, making her jump back shrieking and charge back at you. You also retreated, laughter shaking your body until you crashed against someone, a soft ‘oof’ leaving their lips. “Sorry!”
“It’s alright” You didn’t expect the gentle smile he gave you, compared to the devilish smirk he had on stage. You noticed you had spilled his own drink over the white shirt he was wearing, the V cut revealing the skin on his chest. Once again, embarrassment flushed your cheeks.
“Not again, Jonghyun” the bartender protested, lazily offering some napkins.
“Sorry, Dongho” the singer laughed “You know I’m a bit clumsy”
“It was my fault” you admitted before apologizing again, grabbing more napkins and staying inches away from helping Jonghyun clean himself up. “Let me buy you another drink” you offered.
“You don’t have to, it was an accident” Jonghyun assured, flashing another smile. Dongho raised both eyebrows, as well as your friends who’d been holding their breath for a while, “What?”
“Don’t reject her drink” Dongho took the empty glass that had contained what Jonghyun had been drinking, filling it again and serving one for you too.
“Thanks” you beamed at Dongho, who simply nodded and made himself busy with something else, eyeing your friends sideways, until they got the clue and also took a step away from Jonghyun and you.
“Thank you” Jonghyun took the glass and clanked it gently with yours, “I’m Jonghyun” you wished he stopped smiling at you like that, in a different light and with a completely different aura surrounding him, he was even more attractive.
“y/n” you cleared your throat, taking the drink to your lips.
The awkwardness faded soon enough, with Jonghyun’s soft-spoken nature, you almost couldn’t believe he was the same person that had been on stage half an hour ago, but as you grew confident and a smile appeared on your own face, you knew Yuri was right, and you couldn’t regret going out with them that night.
