You sighed dreamily as you watched Kim exercise in the sunny courtyard below through a window. You were seated at a small table with two chairs on opposite sides with a book open in front of you. The view was just an added bonus. What? You weren’t a stalker. He was in a public place, and so were you, and you were just observing him...yeah….

“Hello? Hey, (y/n). (y/n)!” you jumped and looked up as your best friend (f/n) poked your shoulder. S/he looked down at you with a frown on his/her face.

“Yeah?” you leaned back onto the wall so you could look up at (f/n) a little easier, “what’s up?”

“I should be asking you that.” S/he gestured out the window, “were you stalking Kim again?”

“What?” you gasped, “no way! I was just reading.” You held up the open book that was on the table. (f/n) still looked unamused. “Ugh, fine,” you shut the book that you really had started reading, you just got distracted. “You caught me, now what?”

“Girl,” (f/n) rolled his/her eyes, “pull. Yourself. Together.” S/he clapped his/her hands with every word.

“But it’s love!” you cooed and stood up to dramatically spin like they do in musicals, “it’s everything it’s written like but more!” you held your book close to your chest, “blushing face, racing heart, wanting to be near, constant awe! (f/n),” you grabbed his/her hands, “I’m in love!”

(f/n) pulled his/her hands out of your grasp, “what is this?” s/he asked in disgust, “a musical?”

“Don’t be a grinch,” you whined and spun around happily again, “let me be happy and free!”

“Alright,” (f/n) grabbed your arm to stop you from spinning around and yanked your book out of your hands only to smack you over the head with it.

“Ow,” you frowned and rubbed your head, “rude.”

(f/n) gave you a deadpanned look, “are you done?”

You sighed and heavily sat back down, “you could at least try to be supportive.” You pouted.

(f/n) sat down in the chair across from you, “staring at him from afar and making the world a musical is not going to help.”

“It’s better than anything you’ve suggested,” you frowned.

“Actually,” (f/n) took out his/her phone and unlocked it, “that’s why I needed to get your attention.” S/he put the phone on the table, spun it 180 degrees so it was facing you, and pushed it towards you. “I’ve got something for you.”

You picked up the phone to look at the text on the screen, it seemed to be a schedule of some sorts, and it was full of exercises. Definitely not (f/n)’s schedule, and you could connect the dots. You looked up from the screen and gave (f/n) an even look, “you’re even more of a stalker than me.”

(f/n)’s face flushed a bit at being called a stalker, “actually, Max gave it to me.” S/he said as s/he took back his/her phone.

“And...what do you want me to do with this information?” you looked at (f/n) in confusion.

“Meet up with him and declare your undying love.” (f/n) shrugged.

You nearly shrieked, “that’s not how it works! That never happens in real life! That only happens in stories!”

(f/n) smirked at you, “and staring at him from afar is definitely going to work.”

“Ugh,” you groaned and shoved your face into your hands, “it at least makes me less of a fool than your plan.”

(f/n) looked unconvinced, “right, because you’re the master at being subtle. I could see you watching him from down the hall.” You face-desked. “Listen, I’ve actually got a plan.”

You slid your face so you could see (f/n) but your head was still resting on the table, “alright, shoot.”

“You want him to like you back, right?” you merely glared at (f/n) with a look that you hoped said ‘obviously.’ “So, you can either A) be around him a lot more so that he notices you, B) totally manipulate the heck out of him and condition him to smile every time you’re around him, or C) just be blunt about it. Who knows, maybe he likes you too.”

“You’re ridiculous.” You deadpanned.

(f/n) scoffed, “rude.”

“The first plan sounds the most reasonable, though I am curious what does that second plan mean.”

“Offer him his favorite candy every time you see each other,” (f/n) shrugged, “then he’ll associate you with his favorite candy.”

You shook your head, “you are strange. All right, give me the details of plan A.”

(f/n) showed you his/her phone again, “okay, this is the path that Kim takes on his way home. If you just walk along the same path to this point,” (f/n) pointed to a spot on the map which was near a big intersection, but still pretty close to where Kim’s home was, “and turn back towards your house, you’re bound to bump into each other at some point. Also, if you’re just half a block in front of him, he’ll probably notice you, and you won’t seem like a stalker at the same time.”

You nodded, “okay. It’s not in the complete opposite direction of my house, so I can get behind that.”

“Here,” (f/n) took a screenshot of his/her phone and there was a notification sound from your phone, “I sent it to you, so you know where to go.”

You nodded, “sounds like a plan.”

(f/n) took another quick look down at his/her phone, “oh! School’s almost out, you better pack up so you can be there before Kim.”

You jumped to your feet, “okay! Thanks (f/n)!” you shouted and ran to your lockers to pack up your stuff. You hastily spun your combination into your lock and it clicked open. Once you were inside, you shoved everything that you needed into your bag and zipped it shut, and not a moment too soon. The moment you slammed your locker shut the bell rang, and you zipped out of the school. You looked down at your phone to see the map and made your way through the streets of Paris. You had only gone a couple of blocks away from the school when you heard your name get called out. You looked up from your phone and observed your surroundings, behind you, Kim was waving an arm to get your attention as he ran up to you. You felt your face flush, (f/n)’s plan was going a little better than you had anticipated. “Hi Kim!” you smiled.

“I didn’t know you went this route.” He noted and the two of you continued walking at a leisurely pace.

“Oh, uh,” you frantically tried to think up an excuse, “probably because I normally get out of school late.” That was a lie, you didn’t have any after school activities, and you desperately hoped Kim didn’t know.

“Ah,” Kim nodded and you breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t catch your lie.

“So, how have you been?” you asked trying to make some small talk.

“I’ve been good, you?” he answered simply.

“I’ve been good too.” You replied and it was awkwardly silent again.

The two of you walked down an entire block before Kim spoke up, “do you have any plans later today?”

You shook your head, “other than homework, no.” You looked up to meet his eyes, “you?”

“Nothing much.” He shrugged, “wanna catch a movie?” your heart lurched. Was he asking you on a date? Today? The two of you had just started talking maybe ten minutes earlier! Maybe he was just being friendly? No, that wouldn’t make sense. But a movie? Isn’t that a cliched first date? Did he know you liked him? Did he like you? You didn’t even think he knew of your existence. Maybe he does know you like him! And he’s just trying to be nice! What if he’s just getting your hopes up only to accidentally crush them! “Uh, (y/n)?” a hand waved in front of your face and you broke out of your stupor.

“Uh, yeah?” you asked, your voice had jumped a couple octaves.

“What do you say?”

“It’s a weekday.” You dumbly stated.

Kim awkwardly laughed, “yeah, you’re right. How about Friday?”

Your brain almost imploded, “sure.”

Kim smiled and you could’ve sworn it lit up the whole street, “great!”

His smile was infectious and you couldn’t help but smile back, “yeah! Sounds like a plan.”

Kim stopped walking and you stopped as well, “here’s my stop.” He smiled, “thanks for walking with me.”

Your face heated up as you realized you missed your place to turn, “uh, yeah! Thank you for walking with me too!” you nearly stuttered.

“I’ll see you around!” Kim waved and entered his home. You waved back and hurried down the rest of the street so you could make a wide u-turn and go back to your own home.

“So...how’d it go?” (f/n) asked from the phone. As soon as you got home, you immediately picked up your phone to call him/her.

You nearly screeched, “what was- what did- you- I-”

“Woah (y/n),” you paused your frantic stuttering for a moment, “what happened?”

“That’s what I should be asking you!”

“What?”

There was a deep, almost suffering, breath from the other side of the phone, “what happened? You’re the one that experienced it.”

“Did you set anything up?”

There was a scoff on the other side of the line, “like?”

“I think he just asked me out on a date!” you yelled.

There was a pause, “are you serious?”

“So you didn’t do it!”

“No!” you could almost imagine (f/n) rolling his/her eyes, “you knew everything I knew!” You shrieked, the emotions from the past events coming to the front of your mind as you started to recall and digest what had just happened. “What happened? What happened?” (f/n) asked worriedly.

“He asked me to go to the movies this weekend!” you squealed.

“I can’t believe this!” (f/n) sounded shocked. There was a pause, and it sounded like (f/n) was smiling into the phone, “wow, dumb luck. Ladybug must be looking out for you.”

“How does that even make sense?” you asked incredulously, “Ladybug? She’s not cupid.”

“Okay,” you heard (f/n) relent, “you’re right, then a ladybug must’ve been in the area. It must’ve given you some luck!”

“But what do I do? Do I try to talk to him at school tomorrow?” you gasped and fell face first on your bed, “what am I going to tell my parents?”

“First thing, yes, talk to him at school you dolt!” (f/n) scolded.

“It was an honest question!” you shouted in response, “you know me! If I didn’t ask you that question now, I wouldn’t have talked to him at all!”

(f/n) laughed, “you’re not wrong.”

“You’re so supportive,” you grumbled sarcastically.

“Just say hi to him when you see him,” (f/n) told you nonchalantly, “and no more stalking him from afar!”

“It’s so much easier to do that though,” you whined, “then I won’t fear making myself look like a fool!”

(f/n) groaned, “muster up the courage and do it, there’s nothing to fear. He’s a person, just like you.”

“Another person who just so happens to be incredibly hot.” You muttered under your breath.

“Yeah, sure.” (f/n) agreed, “and as for what to tell your parents, just say the two of us are doing a thing.”

“Will you come?” you blurted out.

“No.” (f/n) answered without any hesitation.

You gaped, “what? Why? I need you there!”

“That’s just weird (y/n),” (f/n) responded. “One, he asked you to go, not me. Two, I’d just be third wheeling and no way am I putting myself through that. Three, do you want him to see you as an awkward dork?”

“But I am,” you whined quietly.

“You’ve got this,” (f/n) told you confidently, “I’ve got to go, I’ll talk to you tomorrow at school!”

“Bye!” you barely managed to get in before (f/n) hung up. “What am I going to do?” you wailed.

You and (f/n) were standing in front of the steps to the school waiting for Kim. Well, more specifically, you were waiting for Kim. (f/n) was there because you made him/her stay. “Do I look okay?” you asked worriedly as you patted your hair down.

“You look lovely,” (f/n) told you sincerely.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes I’m sure,” (f/n) rolled his/her eyes.

“Positive?”

“Yes (y/n)!”

“One hundred percent certain?” you continued to prod.

(f/n) grabbed you by the shoulders, “I am one hundred percent certain you look lovely. If he doesn’t like you because of how you look, then he’s not the guy for you.”

“I’m not sure if that was a backhanded compliment?” you looked at (f/n) in confusion.

Neither of you noticed Kim come up to the two of you until you heard, “hi (y/n), (f/n).”

You jumped and let out a shriek of surprise, “Kim!”

He grinned, “that’s my name. Ready to go?”

You froze. Were you? Were you ready to go on a potential date (you didn’t have the guts to confirm with him if it was a date or not, and he never clarified) with your long time crush? “Of course (pronoun of choice) is,” (f/n) smiled and shoved you closer to him, “have fun you two!” s/he waved as s/he left.

“Do you have any movie that you want to watch?” Kim asked as the two of you walked down the street towards the closest movie theater.

“Um, I don’t know what they’re showing right now.” You answered honestly.

“Avengers: Endgame is showing, have you seen it yet?” Kim questioned as the two of you waited at an intersection for the light to turn.

“Yeah, but I wouldn’t mind seeing it again!” you smiled, Marvel movies were always awesome, even though your heart couldn’t take it.

Kim gave a small fist pump, “Avengers it is!” As the two of you were waiting, Kim took the chance to grasp your hand. You felt your face flush and you shyly turned away from him, but gave a light squeeze, letting him know it was all right. The light turned and the two of you crossed the street. “No spoilers, all right?” Kim grinned at you.

“I would never!” you gasped, “that just ruins it!”

“I’ve heard it’s painful,” Kim mused as the two of you continued your walk through Paris, “would you agree with that statement?”

You winced, “don’t make me cry before we see it!”

Kim held his hands up in surrender, “noted.”

The two of you left the theater sobbing.

“Well, that was…”

“Just as sad as it was the first time I watched it,” you cried.

“Do you maybe, want to catch another movie sometime?” Kim questioned sheepishly.

You stopped your crying for a moment, “are you...asking me on another date?”

Kim looked sheepish and rubbed the back of his neck, “yes?”

You smiled, “I’d love to.”

He grinned, “nice.”

As promised here it is! The final chapter of this heartrate fanfiction. Warning: this is cheesy. But it’s cute. So without further delay, I hope you enjoy~

It’s been four years.

I know it seems like a long time, but honestly time really does fly. It feels like just yesterday I was a shy little girl in a new school. Now, Kim and I getting ready to graduate college and it’s hard for me to even comprehend that soon I’ll be out of school. We’ll be out of school, getting real jobs, hopefully moving into a newer apartment, and doing so many other things that seem so new and different. It’s just crazy.

Kim and I moved out of our first apartment after about a year of dating. We didn’t see any point in paying for a two room apartment once we started sharing a room. We’ve been in the same apartment since then, and while it worked for us, it was an older building and I’ve been looking at moving for a while now. Although, Kim has gotten attached to our apartment and keeps pouting whenever I bring up moving. I’ll bring him around though, don’t worry.

I’m thinking about all of these things as I put some groceries away. I had just finished the last of my final exams and I was extremely nervous. Food shopping was always oddly relaxing to me, so I went and bought just a few extra things we could use. I do this after almost every big test I’ve ever taken in college. I guess Kim had noticed this odd quirk of mine as well because as I closed the door to our pantry, I spotted a note card taped to the door. I pulled the card off the door to read it.

Hey babe~ I know you’ve been stressed with your finals, so I planned a fun little game! Think of it as an early graduation present! I planted a bunch of amazing presents around Paris, so go and find them, Tinkerbell!

I rolled my eyes at the cheesiness of the whole thing. Kim was always thinking of sappy ways to “express his undying love”, as he put it. I really should’ve expected that goofball to do something like this today. I turned the card around to find a childish little drawing of what I assumed to be Kim and I sitting on a bench with a few words underneath it.

Remember the first (of many) times you punched me in the arm?

A small smile found its way to my face and shook my head. I folded the note card in half put it away in my pocket. I grabbed my keys from the counter and my skates from the hall closet, and then I left for my first destination. Our elementary school.

I skated through the Paris streets until I came upon the elementary school where Kim and I first met. School was over so the surrounding area was fairly empty. I spotted the bench that Kim had attempted to draw on his little card and skated over towards it. I looked around the bench and found another card taped to the back along with a small gift bag. I looked into the small bag and pulled out a small little pin of Ariel. I shook my head before pinning it onto my shirt. I figured I might as well wear it for today; Kim would whine if I didn’t. I took a look at what was written on the card along with another silly picture.

I knew you could do it Ariel! You were always the smart one. You’re still my red headed princess after all these years! Ready for the next clue? Do you remember when I literally ran into you when we were 12 and then you got mad at me for calling you short? Well, think back to that one street corner!

On the back of the card was a doodle of what looked like the two of us falling over. I hoped that was what it was because in all honesty, the picture was a little ridiculous. I had to think a little bit back to the old route I used to take when I would skate in the morning. I remembered the corner where Kim and I had bumped into each other all those years ago, with a little difficulty. How did he manage to remember that place? Maybe Kim paid more attention to those kind of things than I did. I started off to find my next clue.

At that street corner was a lamp post with another card and another gift bag taped to it. I was a little pissed because Kim had tapped it just out of my reach, so I had to jump a little bit to grab it. I pulled a red ribbon with the words Minnie Mouse out of the gift bag and laughed a little to myself. I tied the ribbon around my one pigtail before reading the card.

Good job, Minnie~ I know you’ll be mad at me for putting this clue up so high, but I thought it would be a fun way to remember all the times you smacked me for calling you short! Anyway, here’s your next clue: I know I’ll always be your hero ready to save you, but do you remember the first time Hercules came to your rescue?

That jerk; bringing back the first time I called him Hercules. That day was embarrassing for me, but I did enjoy calling Kim a nickname for once. On the back of the card was a drawing of Kim flexing his arms.

“What a complete dork.” I said to myself before heading off to our old school.

When I arrived the old school, where so many odd adventures happened, a bright note card on the front door caught my eye. Of course, a gift bag was hanging nearby as well. I found myself getting more excited to find out what silly little gift Kim had gotten me next. I pulled a small box out of the gift bag and opened it to find a necklace. It was a gold chain with two charms on it. The charms were of Hercules and Meg from the Disney movie. It made me smile and I clasped it around my neck. Kim had really put a lot of thought into these gifts; it was really sweet. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been this happy. I felt like a little kid as I read the next clue to the next gift.

Keep it up, Minnie Meg~ only one more clue after this one! Have you been enjoying your gifts? I hope so! I spent a lot of time looking for them, so you should definitely reward me later for going through so much trouble-

-Just kidding! These are all for you because I love you. So here’s your fourth clue: Do you remember those horrible girls who broke your skates once? I hate them still to this day for hurting you, but I’m glad you were able to show me who they really were. Thanks for that, darling.

On the back was a doodle of what looked like me punching those three annoying girls from high school. It was definitely a funny drawing. I laughed about it the entire time as I skated to our high school. I remembered the skates Kim had bought me after that incident; the note that came with it was the first time Kim had written “love” in anything to me. As I came up to our high school I noticed a bright red bag hanging on a branch of a tree. It was a tree Kim and I used to eat lunch under when we still went to school here.

I removed the bag from the branch and from it I pulled out a charm bracelet. On the bracelet were multiple charms of different pictures of Mulan. There was one charm that just had the words “kick ass babe” on it. I slipped the bracelet over my hand and onto my wrist before pulling the card out of the bag.

This is it, Mulan. The last clue before your last big present. I’ll be waiting for you with your present at the last spot! Go on and head to the place where we first agreed to move in together.

The only things on the back of this card were a lot of little hearts. The place where we agreed to move in together? Did he mean my parent’s house? Wouldn’t that be weird though? I mean, they still lived there. Oh well, who knows what Kim was thinking when he put all of this together. I started off to my childhood home.

When I arrived at my parent’s house, I noticed that the front door was slightly open. I took off my skates and carried them in with me as I entered into my old home. I placed my skates down at the door and walked into the family room where Kim was standing; he was smiling like an embarrassed child with flushed cheeks.

“Hey there Tinkerbell, have you had a fun day?”

“Other than the stressful exam I had to take, yes I’ve had a fun day. I did enjoy your gifts, by the way. They were all very sweet.” I walked closer to Kim and stopped in front of him, watching him shift his weight from foot to foot nervously.

“So, what’s my final gift? If it’s a kiss or something equally as ridiculous, I may punch you. Not that I don’t enjoy being kissed by you, but still.” I warned poking playfully at his chest.

“Nope, not a kiss. Unless of course you want one afterwards. But anyway, here it is.” Kim shyly held out a small box. The box was decorated with art of Tinkerbell all over it. I smiled and then opened the box. My heart stopped and I lost my breath.

In the box was a diamond ring with a silver band. I couldn’t form any of the questions running through my head. I felt Kim’s larger hand gently take mine and looked up from the ring to see Kim getting down on one knee.

“I know this is all pretty cheesy, but I really wanted to do something special for you. We’ve been friends for so long and I’ve loved you for almost as long, even if I didn’t know it then. You make me so happy it’s ridiculous and I know you get annoyed with me sometimes, but I know you love me too. You are my best friend, and you are the most important thing in my life. So, will you continue to make me the happiest man alive, and marry me?” Kim’s hands were shaking quite a bit and his face was pale. He looked so nervous, like he was going to throw up.

What an idiot.

I threw my arms around his neck as tears started to spill from my eyes. I felt his arms wrap around my waist tightly as he buried his face in my neck.

“So is that a yes?” I looked at him like he was crazy. He gave a goofy grin that made me want to smack him, so I kissed that smile off of his face.

“Of course it’s a yes, you meathead! I can’t believe you want to all this trouble for this!” My face was red from embarrassment, so I hid my face in his neck. I felt him pull the ring from my hand and place it on my finger. I continued to cling to this idiot love of mine as my parents came out from where they were hiding to congratulate us.

Kim was definitely an idiot. He was cheesy and could be overbearing sometimes, but he was everything to me. I loved him as much as he loved me. I couldn’t imagine being with anybody else right now. Sure we’ve had ups and downs, sure there were times when I wanted to (and actually did) punch him, but Kim had given me so much over the years. He has given me friendship, support, laughs, many headaches, many gifts, and more love than I could have ever asked for. Oh, and I how could I forget all the nicknames. Kim has given me many nicknames over the years.

And I’m thankful for every one of them.
