#octoberhorrormoviechallenge 41: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) This isn’t the one from a few years ago with Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes, this is the original 70s TV movie that was a remake of. I’m having a rewatch of my DVD as a new Blu Ray restoration is out, so I thought I’d see if it would be worth shelling out for an upgrade. Conclusion; absolutely, this is a true gem of 70s creepiness, where for once the horror aspect wasn’t overpowered by the tasteless fashions and interior decorating. A genuinely unnerving tale, with a unique premise for it’s supernatural foes, and a subtle take on how 70s gender politics make the situation so much worse. It’s worth seeking out if you haven’t already, it’s a truly unnerving 75 minutes of fear, with a real gutpunch of an ending.
