Kim Hae Sook to Star in ‘Miss Granny’ K-Drama Remake with Jung Ji So and B1A4 Jinyoung
Kim Hae Sook, one of the most respected and versatile actresses in Korea, has confirmed her participation in the upcoming K-drama remake of the hit movie "Miss Granny." She will join the young stars Jung Ji So and B1A4 Jinyoung in this fantasy comedy series that will air next year.

“Miss Granny” is a popular 2014 film that tells the story of Oh Mal Soon, a 74-year-old grandmother who suddenly regains her youth after visiting a mysterious photo studio. She changes her name to Oh Doo Ri and pursues her dream of becoming a singer, while hiding her true identity from her family and friends.
The movie was a huge success, attracting over 8.6 million viewers and becoming the highest-grossing Korean comedy film of all time. It also spawned several remakes in other countries, such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The K-drama version of “Miss Granny” will follow the same plot as the movie, but with some modifications and additions to suit the longer format. The series will be directed by Kim Sang Ho, who previously worked on “Extraordinary You” and “Run On,” and written by Shin Ha Eun, who penned “The Crowned Clown” and “Mr. Queen.”

Kim Hae Sook will play the role of Oh Mal Soon, the feisty and stubborn grandmother who transforms into a 20-year-old beauty. Kim Hae Sook is a veteran actress who has appeared in numerous films and dramas, such as “Thirst,” “The Thieves,” “Mother,” “Dear My Friends,” “Prison Playbook,” and “Hospital Playlist.” She is known for her versatile acting skills and her ability to portray various characters with depth and nuance.

Jung Ji So
Jung Ji So will play the role of Oh Doo Ri, the younger version of Oh Mal Soon who enjoys her newfound youth and freedom. Jung Ji So is a rising actress who gained recognition for her roles in “Parasite,” “The Cursed,” and “Snowdrop.” She is also set to star in another upcoming drama, “The Glory,” written by Kim Eun Sook.
B1A4 Jinyoung will play the role of Ban Ji Ji, a music producer who discovers Oh Doo Ri’s talent and helps her debut as an idol. Jinyoung is a singer-actor who debuted as a member of B1A4 in 2011. He has also starred in several dramas, such as “Love in the Moonlight,” “My First First Love,” and “Police University.”

“Miss Granny” is currently in the middle of filming and is expected to air sometime in 2023. The exact broadcast date and network have not been announced yet, but fans are already looking forward to seeing how the drama will adapt the movie’s hilarious and heartwarming story.

While waiting for “Miss Granny” to air, fans can also catch Kim Hae Sook in another upcoming drama, "Strong Girl Namsoon." This is a sequel to the 2017 hit drama “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” which starred Park Bo Young as a woman with superhuman strength.
In “Strong Girl Namsoon,” Kim Hae Sook will play Gil Joong Gan, the grandmother of Kang Nam Soon, played by Lee Yoo Mi. Kang Nam Soon is the cousin of Do Bong Soon, who also inherited the superpower from their grandmother. The drama will follow Kang Nam Soon’s adventures as she teams up with her mother and grandmother to protect Gangnam from evil forces.
“Strong Girl Namsoon” will premiere on October 7 on JTBC at 10:30 p.m. KST.
