i'm a bit late but happy valentine's day sol <3 do you/did you have plans with any of your f/os? how did it go? (you don't have to answer if you don't wanna!)

hi @zaletham!! happy valentine's too ^^ i didn't really have plans since i've mostly been catching up w/classes i missed while i was sick BUT here's some fun ideas for what my ships would be doing:

— i think it would be fun if for every valentine's day that my drw s/i experiences after sie meets river, river visits sier (from wherever point in time she's from, or maybe the river who shares present with sier) and they spent the day having fun and going on a little date. it's like a flipped deal with what goes on with doctorriver, where the doctor is the one that usually takes river out (and usually she breaks herself out of stormcage lol).
— maya & goldie depend; post-canon i think is when they would regularly celebrate valentine's. mostly bc maya just likes going out during the day bcz of the festivities and goldie likes spending time with aer. i've mentioned this in an rb before but goldie's kind of a hit or miss with valentines; i think she wouldn't admit to liking the cheesiness of it all but she'd def love to spend it with scrooge, or more like surprise and catch him off guard (pre-maya lol). but most of the time there's The Weirdness between her and him so she wouldn't really feel like it, and i don't think she's the type to like it very much if she's not in the mood for it lol. before goldie and maya.. get married(???) become official(??) she wouldn't think of spending it with aer cz it would mean she's committing to something and she doesn't want to admit that LOL. she visits every night during valentine's when she secretly gets lonely but she brushes it off. maya always expects her to come after the first few times she's done it and ae prepares ahead of time to surprise her with a homecooked candlelit dinner c:
— kim's birthday is right before (13th) but honestly i don't think she's the type to make a big deal of her birthday (or like making a big deal out of it). and we don't really see them celebrate valentine's in the show either, so i think she and ning and jimmy would go eat out for a little date but it's not a big deal to any of them. i think jimmy is the most sentimental about valentine's out of the three of them. but they do like staying at home cuddling together while drinking wine, eating charcuterie, and watching a movie. i think another reason why kim isn't a big valentine's person during bcs is because she's kind of the "i love u everyday" person @ her partners. post-bcs, kim and ning make it a point to have nice valentine's dates out. one time kim tries to cook for ning and bake dessert and it doesn't go exactly perfectly but she tried her best and ning loves her so much more every time
bonus: this is big kimningjim / kimning energy. thank u kei. (although the "yay! we found each other" fits drriversun / riversun more)
— i think betty, my adv time s/i and simon are the ones who celebrate it the most "traditionally". nice date out, dinner date, they're all unapologetically cheesy people about it. they give each other gifts every year and one time they all got each other the same gift/from the same store LOL. i can imagine them trying to dodge each other while accidentally coming to the store at the same time like some slapstick romcom stuff
— ganyu always gets coerced (/j) by my genshin s/i and shenhe to take the day off for valentine's because she works too much. they make sure to take her out on a lovely relaxing date and shoo away any errands that would pop up haha. i also envision a kind of comedic set up with this where everyone in liyue harbour just keeps approaching ganyu on the street and my s/i and shenhe are like. well we wanted her to rest but it's clear she loves helping her people <33
— yoimiya and i would also be super "traditional" abt valentine's. i think every v-day we would go and have a food trip and ride as many rides as we can at a fair or smth hehe. i'm clinging onto her every chance i get LOL i also think yoimiya is the type to make meaningful gifts for her partner/s. it's HARD for her to keep it a secret while she's making it and leading up to The Day but she does a great job anyway cz she doesn't wanna ruin the surprise.
— sayid is another one who's super into the whole traditional valentine's day celebrations. he's such a gentleman, i think he'd prepare a candlelit dinner for my s/i and buy hym flowers and everything <33 the bouquet would have flower language too cz u know he puts a lot of thought into that. i think he's more of a "stay at home and have fun together in private" person but he would also love to travel with my s/i during valentine's week and go sightseeing C:

kimning mermaid AU with a convoluted premise of my s/i being a siren adjacent thing and accidentally doing something Very Illegal But Mostly Harmless and kim represents them as one of her pro bono work qnd they keep having to hide the fact that they're Not Human from her while kim is trying really hard to figure out how to help them

but also i was thinking of kim and ning being roommates. sharing an apt some time during mailroom era pre-bcs. it might be too self indulgent but idc. they would have a reason (splitting rent and saving money). i'm not sure how willing kim would be to do that, but i think as long as they have separate bedrooms (maybe in a smaller 2-person apt) she'd be able to compartmentalize and allow it. and if her past roomies were kinda shitty or just annoyed her and she'd want to leave and find smth better, bc she's almost nearing the end of her study at UNM and she cannot deal with any more distractions and roommate pronlems.
oh and also. the pre-bcs timeline is a bit messy, but kim starts working at HHM at around 1989-1991. jimmy gets hired no later than 1992. i've always had it that ning gets hired after kim but before jimmy, so kim & ning already know each other for a while. maybe i have ning get hired some time after kim, around 6 mo. to one year after. ning is known more as the IT guy of the mailroom (and sometimes even ppl outside of the mailroom ask for their help, like ppl at the front desk or smth).

On the bus, Ning tries their best to stay awake, but their head starts drooping, eventually dropping against Kim's shoulder. A part of them is awake enough to notice, but a part of them is also too tired to care. Or maybe they want it to be like this.
Kim could tell them no, could move their head away gently, and they would comply, but she only reaches out with her hand to adjust them on her shoulder better, brushing stray strands of their hair back. They could feel something well up in their chest, and suddenly they're more awake than they've ever been.
But they keep their eyes closed anyway. They want to snuggle closer to her, but they don't want to push their luck. They want to reach their hand out for hers that's resting on her lap, but they simply decide to stay put and bask in the moment.
ok but the ways jimmy and i are different are pretty funny too. for instance, i'm a really bad liar. and so is ning. kim asks ning something that ning wanted to keep from her and they'd be folding within like a minute and telling her anyway
🦋: How long did it take them to get out of the awkward early relationship stage? Have they gotten more confident around each other?
see, here's the thing. i guess you can say there was technically an early relationship stage, but for the most part kim and ning went unlabeled during earlier years pre-bcs (just like her and jimmy were in canon). i guess you can say it was awkward and even stressful at times for kim in particular to figure out her feelings and how she really wants her relationships with them & jimmy to be like during mailroom era. but at the point where you can say they're dating (ning moves into kim's apartment with her) they've known each other for a decade or so so most of the awkward blues have already passed. maybe there is more awkwardness in being roommates for the first time, rather than the dating part. i can say ning has gotten more confident with her since then though.
👁️: What exactly do they want with their future with each other? Is that something they think of often or do they just stay in the moment?
hm. i think no, not really. mid-show i think all they really think about is how nice it would be to keep being together & hopefully that's what happens. (spoiler alert: it's not.) kim i think is more of the foresight kind of person bc of who she is and what her background is—she can't afford not having a plan—but it's more to do with her own things and not so much with the relationship. ning is kind of scared to think about the future and prefers living in the moment.
(i think ning isn't big on the marriage thing but they would think to themself, it would be nice to get married. just to make it official. kim isn't big on labels like that bc it's not like it's gonna change much, but it would be nice to be called Their Wife and be like. hello this is My Spouse. i'm still trying to figure out what ning's involvement is wrt mcwexler canon marriage, but post timeskip when ning and kim officially reunite in florida they do eventually get married—or at least, engaged. and it happens before they get in contact with jimmy again.)
