Mermaidkin DIY You Can Actually Do
For this, I really wanted to do cheap, easy, and quick DIY stuff to do in a pinch when you feel those kin feels comin, but also are, you know, a normal person without a fuck ton of supplies or time lying around. So this is my, kind of silly and totally not high quality, DIY mermaidkin crafts!
Mermaid sugar scrub.
This isn’t my idea, but it is an awesome recipe. All you need is coconut oil, sugar, some food coloring, and a jar or other holding container. The link shows you clear directions on how to mix the colors to get a lovely blue ombré scrub, and I don’t know about you, but pampering myself is about as mermaid-y as I get.
Seashell clip
Sooo many of these clips and jewelry require having shells on hand, but I wanted to do this diy post for people who are normal people who don’t have all the crap these blogs have on hand. So what you can do is print out a realistic graphic of a seashell, glue it to a stiff piece of cardboard, and cut that out. Use some hot glue to adhere it to a bobby pin or clip, repeat at different sizes until you have enough to colver the pin, and voila! Seashell clip for about as cheap as it gets. It might not look totally realistic, and obviously if you have some seashells lying around glue those to your clip instead, but in a pinch, this will give you a bit of the feeling you are looking for
Mermaid... basically anything
So you know how Pinterest loves to glue sequins to everything in a scale pattern and call it a mermaid thing? Yea, well, I love those, but I don’t freaking have a bag of blue sequins lying around. But you know what I do have? Construction paper and half dried up glitter glue. So you know what you do fellas? Cut a bunch of mini circles from your construction paper, feel free to use whatever color resonates best with you, and glue those fuckers to whatever you want. Journals, back of your hairbrush, corners of your mirror, go wild, and throw as much glitter on that as you want because everyone knows we love our glitter. If you want, throw some of those shell printouts in there too, and maybe the stray sequins you found in the drawer. Boom, mermaid-ified.
Shell Cookies
Ok this one you probably will need to go out and buy stuff, but you can find it at CVS, Hell even a convenience store might have it. All you need is round shortbread cookies (if you can find one with the shell like swirls, even better), and the vanilla frosting that comes in those cans (you can of course make your own frosting, but make sure it’s thick and really pipable). Put some frosting in a plastic bag, seal it up, and cut one bottom corner. Then pipe a big old blob in the center of one of the cookies, prop another on top so it looks like a shell, and put a lil pearl sprinkle in there (or maybe just some glitter sprinkles. Or none. You do you). Boom, sea shell cookie.
Now of course, these are all kind of silly ideas, but they are nice alternatives for people who cant go collect sea shells or visit the sea and who cant spend money to buy supplies at michaels or get sea shell stuff otherwise. Maybe one of these ideas will get you started, or maybe not. At least I hope I got a laugh! Thanks for humoring me y’all!
