Ik this is dumb... But could you explain this kin concept for me?? And how do you find your kin?? Can you choose it??
This blog has been dead, but I think this would be a fantastic way to revive it.
Before I answer your questions, I’d just like to say that I adore that you’re making an effort to learn about kin!
1. Kin is a very, well, varied belief, but the bare bones is the belief that you were an animal/character/etc in a past life, or that you possess the soul of that thing. Those are the two most common beliefs in the kin community, but a lot of different ideas of what kin is, and how they experience theirs.
For me, I am both fictionkin and otherkin. This means I identify as both fictional characters and some creatures. I believe in the multiverse theory, so I do believe there are infinite alternate universes, in some of which, I used to be these characters or creatures! I believe I was these things in past lives, like with reincarnation (something I believed in before I even knew what kin was!)
2. Finding your kin is a very personal thing, specific to everyone! Personally, I figured out I was kin because I felt a super strong connection to dragons, and specifically one dragon. After some more research on kin, I realized that’s what I am! That was my first kin. After that, whenever I felt a similar bond with something, I’d explore it! Invest myself in the lore, and see if anything seemed familiar. Often, I’ll get memories from these past lives, which really cements that I’m kin (to me, at least). But, this isn’t a requirement! Kin with no memories are just as valid as kin with tons of memories.
3. No, you can’t choose your kin. Trust me, I really wish I could. But, choosing a “kin” is called Copinglink, and a separate thing. Copinglink is when people choose a character to kin, similarly to comfort characters, but a bit more personal.
Copinglink can develop into actual kin, though! My first kin, Rich Goranski from Be More Chill, started off as a way for me to cope with my autism, anxiety, and general introverted-ness. After a while though, I started getting more and more clear memories, and that’s how I discovered I’m kin with him!
This blog does do requests for Copinglink and Comfort Characters, by the way! Just in case you wanna send an ask in.
I hope that answered some of your questions, Anon! If you have any more, feel free to send another ask or DM me! I’d be glad to answer them.
